  • Great pod!

Great podcast. You helped me say the right things to my doctor to get back on HRT. Now why the gatekeeping on the Korean hair dye?!

  • The next best thing to a doctor’s appointment

As I write this, I’m 3 months out from seeing a new doctor after years of my PCP telling me I wasn’t suffering enough yet to get on HRT. I can’t believe how much I see myself in the experiences discussed in these episodes. My resolve is strengthening. By the time I actually get in to see someone, I will be informed and pumped enough to advocate for myself. I’m ready to feel like myself again. Can’t thank y’all enough for making this podcast or my friend for telling me about it.

  • Just everything we needed

I’ve just discovered the podcast and I’m loving it - inspiring, truth telling, myth busting punk wonder, exactly what this perimenopausal girl needed. It’s so good to feel so heard, so seen and so spoken to. Seriously, thank you guys and can’t wait for the documentary.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 30: TURNING THE WHISPER NETWORK INTO A RAGING PUNK SCREAM FOR HORMONAL JUSTICE with Gilly Ann Hanner, Lisa Koenig and Mandy Morgan of Calamity Jane
Q: What does it mean for Calamity Jane to reunite now, after 35 years, in the context of menopause and creative energy?
The reunion is about reactivating a legacy with the added context of midlife hormonal changes, demonstrating that creativity can be amplified with proper health management and community support.
Episode 18: FIGHTING MEDICAL MISOGYNY & MISINFORMATION IN PERI/MENOPAUSE with Amanda Otterman, RN
Q: What steps can a listener take to advocate for themselves when seeking HRT or vaginal estrogen?
Demand a full hormonal workup if appropriate, push back against unnecessary weight-based denial, seek providers familiar with menopause, and consider private consults if public options are insufficient; know that vaginal estrogen can be used safely with proper guidance and shouldn't be barred.
Episode 18: FIGHTING MEDICAL MISOGYNY & MISINFORMATION IN PERI/MENOPAUSE with Amanda Otterman, RN
Q: Why is access to hormonal care so challenging for midlife women, especially if they are overweight or from communities of color?
Systemic bias and medical misinformation have created barriers; doctors may dismiss symptoms or gatekeep care based on weight or race. Education, better provider training in menopause, and patient advocacy are essential to breaking this pattern.
Episode 21: RADICAL EMPATHY & SOLVING THE GENX PERI/MENOPAUSE PANDEMIC PUZZLE with Mirah
Q: What barriers did you face in accessing hormone care and how did you overcome them?
She details familial support, especially her sister's research and guidance, and the availability of clinics in New York; she also notes that systemic barriers persist and stresses the need for broader access and education.
Episode 21: RADICAL EMPATHY & SOLVING THE GENX PERI/MENOPAUSE PANDEMIC PUZZLE with Mirah
Q: How did hormone therapy impact your creativity and daily functioning?
Starting hormones, particularly estradiol and testosterone, helped lift emotional dysregulation and brain fog, enabling her to reconnect with songwriting and touring, and to manage life as a parent and artist more effectively.
