BREANA PATEL: Can AI Transform Long Term Care?
Q: What about privacy and regulatory compliance in healthcare?
We are HIPAA compliant and anonymize patient data so there is no patient-identifiable information in our algorithms. We designed robust security protocols to address regulatory hurdles and reassure facilities and families about data privacy while enabling better oversight and accountability.
BREANA PATEL: Can AI Transform Long Term Care?
Q: How does your AI actually help caregivers in real time without replacing humans?
The platform uses ambient AI and non-contact sensing to monitor patients, predict events, and surface actionable insights to clinicians. It automates administrative tasks, freeing up time for direct care, while providing real-time alerts and personalized care recommendations, not serving as a replacement for human workers but as an empowering tool.
BREANA PATEL: Can AI Transform Long Term Care?
Q: So, tell us about your background and what led you to build Owl AI for long-term care.
I started in finance and banking, moved into regulatory remediation after the 2008 crisis, built and sold a company, then pursued an MBA at MIT Sloan to access cutting-edge tech. The combination of regulatory insight, health tech exposure, and a personal experience with a loved one in care sparked Owl AI, with a mission to move care from outdated systems to proactive, AI-driven workflows that improve safety and dignity for residents.
NEAL K. SHAH: CareYaya and “Insured to Death” Take On Broken Elder Care, AI Denials, and the Power of Love
Q: What can you share about the book Insured to Death and the AI angle in health insurance denials?
The book examines how insurers use AI to deny critical care, leading to financial toxicity and debt. Neal describes building Counterforce Health to provide free AI tools that help families appeal denied claims, effectively turning AI against AI in defense of patients.
