  • Inspired guest & listener

I was a listener well before becoming a guest of The Founding Partner podcast. I always enjoyed how guests were encouraged to share more of themselves, over time, beyond their law firm successes. There’s so much more to us as lawyers and business owners.

As a guest, I recognized that Jonathan Hawkins asks great questions, and it was fun to dig deep into the cause and effect of different decisions that I’ve made over the last 2 decades. I feel like I even know myself better after this podcast d... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Blazing Her Own Path with Bonnie Richardson
Q: What would you tell someone about seizing opportunities in a crisis or downturn?
Identify new markets or practice areas (like plaintiff malpractice and litigation adjacent services), invest in systems and a website to articulate the vision, and build a team that can execute while others retreat.
Blazing Her Own Path with Bonnie Richardson
Q: What advice would you have for somebody just starting out, maybe thinking about it or a few years in, to set their firm up, grow it the right way?
Gather all available resources, do deep self-reflection to understand your strengths and weaknesses, build a plan, invest in guidance or consultants, and design the business around your personal strengths while compensating for weaknesses.
Building with a Co-Founder with Angel Casarez
Q: How do you maintain culture and values in a remote, high-growth environment?
We codified our values before launching and continually reference them for hiring, promotion, and even social media. We also use proactive onboarding rituals, like welcoming new hires on our Teams channel with personal details, to create belonging and alignment from day one.
Building with a Co-Founder with Angel Casarez
Q: What was the strategic moment that shifted your growth expectations from ambitious to achievable?
Early on we set a bold goal of 50 attorneys in five years, and as we evolved we realized the target was possible sooner and then adjusted to manage growth sustainably, including disciplined hiring and ensuring we could maintain high-quality work as the team expanded.
Building with a Co-Founder with Angel Casarez
Q: Why did you choose to bring in a co-founder instead of going it alone from day one?
I'm a social person who thrives with people around me, and I didn't want to own the firm by myself. We found complementary strengths in Erin, and that partnership turned out to be essential for sustaining rapid growth and managing the business side of the firm while we built the culture.
