  • Episode 108: At work in the ruins.

Has to be the most thought provoking, challenging, reinforcing, heartening, illuminating podcast interview I’ve listened to in a long while. Such clear sighted map making and navigation along the multiple paths and ways we need to think about and negotiate to bring people and food back together if we are to make the best of life in a collapsing human world. Thank you both, Duvall and ffinlo, for re-energising this 70- something rural refugee of 50yrs seeking ways to rebuild and rejuvenate the ‘m... more

  • Insightful, Inspiring, Educational

Just listened to the episode on Regenerative Agriculture and wish the entire podcast could be about this - so inspiring, thoughtful, and encouraging. Clearly looked at the issues and offered real world solutions.

Also fairly impressed that they were able to talk to the ‘Conservative Environmental Network’ without falling about laughing (or weeping) at the irony. But the interviewer kept their cool and it was useful to hear how the ruling class justifies itself to itself.

How to prepare for an emergency
Q: Why is the shift from just-in-time to just-in-case so critical for the UK, and what are the immediate steps to move in that direction?
Lang argues that shocks from climate, conflict, and cyber threats expose the fragility of a just-in-time system, and proposes a multi-level framework with community assets audits, local resilience committees, and a clear legislative backbone to formalize responsibilities across government levels.
Why outcomes matter for regen dairy
Q: What is the commercial value of outcome-driven regenerative dairy for customers and the supply chain?
Outcome evidence builds trust and reduces risk, enabling customers to invest in regenerative practices and potentially pay a premium for products produced with verifiable natural capital outcomes.
Why outcomes matter for regen dairy
Q: How will outcomes be measured and scaled across farms?
By leveraging soil carbon databases, partnerships with ecologists, and cost-effective citizen science and technology, to identify reliable indicators and scale them across members while continuing to refine methods over time.
Why outcomes matter for regen dairy
Q: How does the next phase differ from the first phase of Regen Dairy?
The focus shifts from recording actions and inputs to proving outcomes like soil health, biodiversity, and water quality, using proxies and independent verification where needed, while still tracking inputs.
Why outcomes matter for regen dairy
Q: What is a white paper in this context and why publish it now?
It is a document that outlines evidence, shares learnings, and invites conversation about next steps, not a finished mandate, with the aim of widening discussion beyond First Milk to the broader supply chain.
