I just listened to this podcast for the first time. Having been an admirer of the BBC and its journalistic standards my whole life - this was a bit shocking. Within minutes it was reported that Tupac Shakur was shot on the “Sunset Strip” (in L.A.) not on “The Strip” in Las Vegas and that Harvey Milk was the “predecessor” of late Senator Dianne Finestein. If I am looking for fact-adjacent copy, I might as well turn to Vice News. That was sobering.
When discussing the extermination of indigenous communities (American Indians, Armenians, etc.) false equivalencies are all over the discussions on BBC.
What low quality reporting. How about some context as to why they barricate themselves in a monastery... Because shortly before a group of 30 of them dressed in militia gear killed a policeman unprovoked.
Great reporting yet climate change peice is lacking. The recent podcast on UN climate talks somehow failed to mention the Global March to End Fossil Fuels that saw hundreds of demonstrations around the world, including one with 75,000 people in New York for ClimateWeek at the UN. As well, reporting fails to educate listeners on fossil fuels and how despite their pledges and commitments, world leaders are increasing the expansion of oil gas and coal.
