  • Dropping Quality

I’ve been a long-time listener of the BBC World Business Report, but the quality has declined in recent years. The range of stories feels narrower and the reporting less sharp than it used to be. I’ve now switched to Bloomberg’s Daybreak Europe Pod, which offers a much wider range of global business stories for me.

  • Absolutely terrible reporting

As someone who has both US and UK nationality and has lived in both countries, this show demonstrates the legit toffiest worst of the English. No, it is not “interesting” that the US is considering a budget bill that takes health insurance away from the poor to give tax cuts to the wealthiest. The oh look at those Americans over there how curious (read stupid because not British) is so incredibly tired. Seriously, Mike Johnson get a grip: you ask the stupidest questions, arrive at the stupidest ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Meta and YouTube found liable in landmark social media addiction trial
Q: Just take us to the core of the argument. What exactly did the jury believe Meta and YouTube did wrong?
The jury found negligence and fault across multiple charges, with Instagram deemed more at fault than YouTube, and called for warnings and stronger protections for children.
From state of emergency to rationing: fuel shortages cause chaos across the globe
Q: What are your thoughts on that movement of trade, hundreds of millions of dollars of trade before seven in the morning?
The large shifts are typically driven by big hedge funds and institutional funds, with prices moving because liquidity and expectations shift, and the prices then retrace as more information surfaces; ongoing uncertainty keeps volatility high.
Two of the biggest names in your kitchen could soon be joining forces
Q: Geoff, what do you think this deal means for the future of the global food industry and for consumers?
The deal signals a shift toward more concentrated portfolios and potentially stronger scale in food, but also raises questions about price dynamics and whether the combined entity can manage cultural integration and channel strategy effectively.
SpaceX eyes take off with over $1 trillion valuation
Q: How might public shareholders affect SpaceX's strategic choices, particularly around Starlink and data-centric services?
A public listing would bring stricter disclosure and accountability, potentially changing how SpaceX balances strategic investments with profitability, and could influence decisions on revenue-focused versus R&D-heavy initiatives like data centers and reusability benefits.
SpaceX eyes take off with over $1 trillion valuation
Q: Why now for SpaceX to consider an IPO given its close ties to defense and NASA contracts?
The discussion suggests a mix of investor appetite, the desire for liquidity, and the potential to unlock capital that could accelerate SpaceX's broader goals, especially in AI and data infrastructure, while maintaining influence through dual-class shares.
