  • Dropping Quality

I’ve been a long-time listener of the BBC World Business Report, but the quality has declined in recent years. The range of stories feels narrower and the reporting less sharp than it used to be. I’ve now switched to Bloomberg’s Daybreak Europe Pod, which offers a much wider range of global business stories for me.

The oh look at those Americans over there how curious (read stupid because not British) is so incredibly tired. Seriously, Mike Johnson get a grip: you ask the stupidest questions, arrive at the stupidest ... more

US allows Russian oil sales to tackle rising prices
Q: Randeep, how significant is that $90 mark?
Oil breaking the $90 level is a meaningful psychological and market milestone that signals elevated risk premiums and potential inflationary spillovers, but the long-term impact will depend on how energy markets react to supply constraints and sanctions, as well as demand resilience.
How are shipping delays at the Strait of Hormuz impacting global business?
Q: What is the most immediate risk to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz?
A single drone or attack could disrupt a narrow waterway critical to global oil flows, causing cascading delays and a spike in insurance costs as carriers reassess risk exposure.
How are shipping delays at the Strait of Hormuz impacting global business?
Q: Do you think it will satisfy the insurers?
Insurers are reacting by either canceling premiums or sharply increasing them, so the short-term relief is tempered by long-term cost concerns and a need for broader stability in the region.
