  • Dropping Quality

I’ve been a long-time listener of the BBC World Business Report, but the quality has declined in recent years. The range of stories feels narrower and the reporting less sharp than it used to be. I’ve now switched to Bloomberg’s Daybreak Europe Pod, which offers a much wider range of global business stories for me.

The oh look at those Americans over there how curious (read stupid because not British) is so incredibly tired. Seriously, Mike Johnson get a grip: you ask the stupidest questions, arrive at the stupidest ... more

The guest indicates shareholders sent a clear signal at the AGM that governance needed fixing and that Manifold should engage with shareholders, implying limited ongoing support for his agenda at that moment.
Will Donald Trump's visit to China benefit the global economy?
Q: Mary, what was your kind of top line takeaway from the last couple of days?
Mary Lovely emphasizes the complexity of the relationship, noting both the positive framing by Xi and the limits of tangible breakthroughs beyond a transactional Boeing deal.
Will Donald Trump's visit to China benefit the global economy?
Q: Brad, why don't you set us out?
Brad Setzer summarizes the consensus view and frames the discussion around the Boeing deal, broader trade tensions, and what the talks might mean for long-term US–China relations.
Trump flies to China for talks with Xi
Q: Russ, remind me, what's a trade deficit and why would President Trump be mad at that?
A trade deficit occurs when a country imports more than it exports; the episode explains that this can be politically painful because it's associated with lost domestic manufacturing and pressure on jobs, which leaders may use to claim economic weakness or success depending on the context.
AI, billions and the race to go public
Q: Would markets want more regulation or could it hurt AI-driven growth?
Panelists suggest a balance is needed: guardrails to manage jobs and security, while recognizing investors might seek clear, predictable rules to justify funding high-growth AI firms.
