  • Great podcast

This is a great podcast. Neither two hosts are annoying! Likable and well informed. They make subjects that maybe I’d be less interested in, interesting!

  • lame british gobbledygook

the bibi broadcasting corporation wears centrism like a cheap suit. like the ny times. they lie, they equivocate. the best thing companies like these can do to protect their legacy would be to shut down for good, sell off all their assets, and declare the entire operation a mulligan. seriously though, they’re just lousy, capitalist propagandists

  • The Death of Reading Episode

Incredibly Eurocentric ignoring the work on the wealth of societies in which sophisticated oral histories/legal systems/traditions existed. Also ignores the rich pre-c18th histories of ‘peasant’ uprisings and rebellions in Europe itself by peoples the expert would perceive as illiterate/unable to grapple with ideas of rights/customs/inequalities.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Iran under attack: The view from inside
Q: What is the potential for democracy or regime change given the current military dynamics?
Experts suggest that foreign intervention alone is unlikely to deliver democracy, and the regime could endure despite losses, depending on how the conflict unfolds and who remains cohesive domestically.
Iran under attack: The view from inside
Q: Is there any clarity on who is actually running the country now?
There is no clear answer; leadership appears to be in flux with a temporary leadership council, and past examples show shifts in who takes command after senior officials are killed.
Iran under attack: The view from inside
Q: What have people inside Iran been telling you about the situation on the ground?
Parham describes divided feelings: some celebrate targeted leadership, others fear civilian harm and the destabilizing consequences of war, with many not sure who is really in charge.
Do Trump and Netanyahu have conflicting end goals on Iran?
Q: Who ultimately made the decision to start the strikes, Trump or Netanyahu?
The discussion suggests it is likely Trump was persuaded by Netanyahu and others in his circle to act at this time, but there is ongoing ambiguity about who gave the final approval.
Could Iran be the next ‘forever war’?
Q: Is there a realistic plan for what comes after Iran if military action proceeds?
The guest argues that unlike Iraq, where plans were abandoned or ignored, there is insufficient, coherent planning for post-intervention governance in Iran, and history suggests that without a credible end-state or stabilizing framework, interventions tend to devolve into unstable or “forever wars.”
