  • Weak

The in-depth journalism I expect from the BBC is missing here. It feels very superficial and American. Interesting subjects, but I don’t trust that the presenter has thoroughly researched any of it.

  • Thank you from Geneva from a Venezuela and UN former officer

The Global Story is truly outstanding. I deeply admire the work your team does by going beyond the headlines and providing thoughtful, evidence-based reporting.

Your latest episode on migration in Europe and around the world was particularly incredible. As a former United Nations official and as a Venezuelan, I know how important it is to have accurate information and nuanced discussions. The best way to challenge misinformation and harmful narratives is with facts, context, and honest journalis... more

  • Essential BBC

Global story is my first stop every day on the BBC. A recent episode about the Iran school bombing by the US is only the most recent example of the high quality and sensitive handling you all bring to every daily topic. Outstanding! And I think this is the first podcast review I’ve ever written.

  • British Foreign Policy Propaganda

This is basically just British and American foreign policy propaganda. They talk about Tony Blair without discussing the million people he killed for oil in Iraq. And to discuss this colonial effort to return a British mandate upon Palestine without pointing out the colonial baggage is a choice. A choice to spread propagandist lies. Same thing again with the Lindsay Graham glorification episode. Just pure propaganda. Disgusting.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trump 'tightens the noose' on Iran. Will it backfire?
Q: Vali, the situation you're describing is one in which a US attempt to contain the crisis may actually be allowing it to expand and become even more consequential.
Nasr explains that the strategy risks creating a broader economic and geopolitical clash, especially with China and other major powers, potentially expanding beyond Iran and complicating global markets.
How the world sees Lindsay Clancy
Q: Why is this case perceived differently overseas compared to in the United States?
Other countries see parallels with their own infanticide laws and healthcare systems, which can lead to a more nuanced or lenient view of maternal mental illness and accountability, contrasting with US debates over punishment and public safety.
How the world sees Lindsay Clancy
Q: How does the UK infanticide framework differ from the US approach in this case?
The UK framework often provides a separate infanticide offense with a lighterSentencing and focuses on the disrupted mental state after birth, whereas the US lacks a uniform national approach, with states varying and often emphasizing murder charges or other outcomes depending on jurisdiction.
Is the world giving up on the US dollar?
Q: What currencies pose the biggest challenge to the dollar going forward?
Beyond the dollar, the euro and the Chinese yuan are the main challengers, with crypto also emerging as a non-state-backed alternative; the mix and relative strength will depend on economic fundamentals, sanctions, and geopolitical dynamics.
Is the world giving up on the US dollar?
Q: What changed with the Nixon shock and the move away from gold backing?
The Nixon administration ended the dollar's convertibility to gold, breaking the gold standard and shifting to a system of fiat currencies with flexible exchange rates, which gradually allowed more global diversification and currency competition.
