  • Excellent

Thorough investigations every weekday, highly informative thought provoking content.

Like The Bunker this gives you half an hour or so of focus towards a topical subject, either meriting discussion as it might have been unduly forgotten amongst the news agenda, or because it’s a headline topic. Full of interviews, it’s like a documentary, well-produced with music/sound design that is sympathetic.

Now in the evenings they’re offering an additional 10 minute feature, usually a news update or sh... more

  • Thank you

I want to sincerely thank the Today in Focus team for having been doing such incredible work each and every day for so many years. I think I have listened to every single episode since I found the podcast at some point during the pandemic, and you have been my daily companions, helping me to make sense of the (often rather terrifying) world around me. I struggle to make time to sit down and read the news and get beyond headlines, and I so I really need and value your in-depth and nuanced in rep... more

  • Bias Bias Bias - Chaos In The Gulf

A pro-white western perspective on all issues concerning the Middle East, not least pro-Israel and anti-Palestinian reporting. Hardly surprising given its reporters are from the same stock of colonial powers over the centuries. Oh! A really amateur presenter asking some of the dumbest questions concerning ex-pats, western puppets like Saudi and the Gulf States. Basically, the rich white world flexing its colonial powers and the Guardian “journalists” putting the icing on the cake. If you choose ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

US-Iran ceasefire: has Tehran played Trump? – The Latest
Q: So talk to me about this 10-point plan that the Iranians have put forward, because Donald Trump has said that he's happy for it to be the basis of negotiations moving forward, but kind of outline where the two US and Iran are and what the foot lines might be.
The plan includes a recognition of enrichment at a certain level and a revival of discussions around the nuclear agreement, but it also signals disagreements over enrichment retention and the specifics of supervision, suggesting both sides want a measured path into talks while avoiding fully rehashing the old deal.
Trump latest Iran deadline looms – The Latest
Q: What are the legal and ethical guardrails that might prevent such an action?
They discuss existing international bodies and U.S. legal frameworks that aim to prevent war crimes, but note that internal figures may have been sidelined or purged, potentially eroding oversight and increasing the risk of unlawful military actions.
Trump latest Iran deadline looms – The Latest
Q: Tell me about what he's been threatening and why.
The host and guest explain that Trump's threats center on aggressive actions against Iran's critical infrastructure to coerce Tehran into a deal, but legal and strategic experts argue such measures risk massive civilian harm and could be illegal under international law, complicating any rationale for escalation.
North Korea’s ‘most beloved daughter’
Q: Coming up, what opportunities and challenges will Ju-ae inherit if she does take over?
She would inherit a state with nuclear capabilities and international isolation, but also a propaganda-led expectation of continuity and stability; the key challenges include managing legitimacy, balancing regional pressures, and navigating a regime that has long guarded information about the dynasty while leveraging social loyalty through media appearances.
North Korea’s ‘most beloved daughter’
Q: What do you think the strategy is so far with Kim Ju-ae's public appearances?
The strategy appears to be to project a normal family image, imitate how the grandfather presented the family, and gradually normalize leadership transition while maintaining secrecy about official titles and the birth name. This framing aims to prepare the public for a possible future leader while avoiding overt legitimacy through formal titles.
