Reviews

4.6 out of 5 stars from 1.3k ratings
  • Good, entertaining, but very biased

… but maybe that’s the point. I like this podcast but it is very biased and they do selectively choose how to report facts or make facts work for their narrative. So it can definitely lean into misleading. But mainly I’d say I enjoy most episodes

  • Trump fawning

Could you dawn any harder on Trump, Johnathan? Sickening episode on Trump lording it over the Middle East. Disappointing.

  • Strange Focus

An episode exploring why people question the narrative lines from the Whitehouse yet at no point do you mention how many times the President lies on a daily basis.

  • Very good show

I love Jonathan Freedman and always look forward to this show’s episodes. He’s a smart journalist, a decent and compassionate human being, and asks pertinent questions. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 only because some of the guests do not aways seem to see the full picture - in my opinion - although this has been less of an occurrence recently. Keep up the great work!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trump forced to drain the reflecting pool swamp
Q: Do we know exactly what went wrong with the job?
The conversation outlines rushed contracting, misaligned priorities, and the failure to address underlying infrastructure, leading to ongoing problems and cost overruns.
Trump forced to drain the reflecting pool swamp
Q: Arwa, tell us a bit about this landmark. It's a reflecting pool.
We discuss how the pool's symbolism has grown beyond a mere renovation project, becoming a mirror for Trump's approach to leadership, the media narrative, and the politics of spectacle.
Tired of Iran, Trump refocuses on Ukraine
Q: Talk to us a little bit about the deal this week and what's going on?
The Memorandum of Understanding is not a full peace deal but a ceasefire with Iran, and it includes provisions like toll-free movement through the Strait of Hormuz for a period, followed by future nuclear negotiations, with questions about enforcement and what happens if commitments are not honored.
A Brit, a billionaire, and Spencer Pratt: California’s primary upsets
Q: What explains Steve Hilton's rise in California, and how does his endorsement from Trump affect perceptions of his viability in a general election?
Hilton's rise appears to be driven by frustration with the Democratic establishment and his outsider appeal, but Trump's endorsement risks complicating his appeal in a general election by tying him to Trump's broader political baggage, potentially harming cross-party appeal in a state with strong Democratic majorities.
A Brit, a billionaire, and Spencer Pratt: California’s primary upsets
Q: Why does California use the jungle primary, and what did that mean for the governor's race this cycle?
The jungle primary isolates the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, which can lead to two candidates from the same party advancing and potentially two Republicans in a gubernatorial runoff, complicating strategic voting and campaign messaging.
