  • Fiona Hill - worst guest in history

I love the combination of John and Emily but my god, did their last guest - Fiona Hill, like the sound of her own voice. It became unlistenable and so unenjoyable. Please never have her on here again. She was incredibly boring and just talked at you guys for the entire episode. Absolute waffle

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is Trump a Russian asset? Fiona Hill on the President she worked for
Q: You've talked about the unrestrained Donald Trump. You've talked about the relationship with Netanyahu. I want to talk about another relationship, which is the Trump relationship with Vladimir Putin.
Fiona Hill explains that Trump's affinity for strongmen like Putin, and his susceptibility to Russian narratives, created a complex dynamic where Putin could potentially influence Trump through flattery, access, and strategic messaging. She notes the ongoing erosion of the UK–US special relationship and how Trump's behavior exposed vulnerabilities in American democracy, while highlighting that domestic actors and institutions have at times resisted or mitigated his more reckless impulses.
Will Trump's record unpopularity make him end the war in Iran?
Q: Do you think Donald Trump in his own head thinks this is going well, and that he's ready to declare victory in two weeks' time?
The guest expresses uncertainty about the president's internal assessment, warns that favorable news may be biased by advisers, and notes that public polling and domestic politics will eventually influence decisions.
Will Trump's record unpopularity make him end the war in Iran?
Q: Can you make any more sense of it than we can on this side of the Atlantic, where we're struggling to work out what the war aims are and when they'll be achieved?
The guest explains the confusion around objectives, emphasizes the lack of a clear strategic endgame, and suggests that congressional scrutiny is essential to legitimizing any long-term plan.
Is MAGA rupturing over Trump's war in Iran?
Q: Could you explain what the strategic aim of the Iran campaign is, and whether there is a real consensus behind it?
Greenblatt suggests that while the administration has stated broad objectives—de-nuclearization and countering threats—there is a tension between public messaging and private strategy, with important actions driven by conviction and calculations about the region rather than a fixed, widely disclosed playbook.
Trump's Kentucky chaos and Rubio's big...shoes
Q: Is there a clear strategy for ending the war or for regime change in Iran?
Bolton argues that without a coherent strategy, allied preparation, and a plan for the post-conflict environment, the ambition risks failure.
