  • New look

Insightful and revealing interviews as always. I could have listened to Neil Kinnock all day, and the interview underlined yet again that he was the best PM we never had.

Just a slight concern about the new look icon: you two besuited gents look the very essence of suave, but the positioning of Alistair's head obscures the 'e' in 'Leading' so it looks like 'Politics Fading' 🥴. I'm sure I can't be the only one seeing the image this way every time!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

194. Is Putin Losing His Grip on Russia?
Q: What's the most surprising thing you've observed reporting on Russia over the years?
The enduring disconnect between the Kremlin's portrayal of resilience and the visible tension within Russian society, along with the country's resilience in public spaces despite repression, stood out as a persistent paradox.
194. Is Putin Losing His Grip on Russia?
Q: How has the West's approach to Russia affected the current conflict?
The West's initial willingness to engage was followed by suspicions and sanctions, which Moscow interpreted as weakness or a threat, contributing to a cycle of mistrust and hardened positions on both sides.
194. Is Putin Losing His Grip on Russia?
Q: What changed in Putin's approach from the early 2000s to today?
Putin evolved from seeking Western integration and partnership to prioritizing Russia's independence and proving its global power, often through assertive moves like Crimea and a more centralized, controlled domestic regime.
192. Are We On The Brink Of World War III? (Odd Arne Westad)
Q: Can we identify the key factors that could lead to a major war in the near future?
Westad argues that the combination of high tensions among great powers, non-state actor risks (including terrorism), miscalculation, and a lack of imaginative thinking about possible futures could produce a crisis that spirals into conflict, unless there are preventive steps and a willingness to negotiate and manage conflicts.
189. Rahm Emanuel: China, Technology, and the Future of the Democratic Party
Q: What is your view on the future of the Democratic Party and your potential candidacy?
Emanuel frames the future as an ideas-driven contest focused on education, healthcare, economic opportunity, and a modernized alliance-based foreign policy, while acknowledging the reality of a tough, expensive path to the presidency and the need to prove he can balance heart, head, and policy strategy.
