  • Disappointed by the turn this show has taken

I’m from the US with no significant connection to Britain, but I started following during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic because it was comforting to me to have a source for down-the-middle, fact-based reporting. I never found it totally unbiased but it had a unique skew compared to US news sources, which is always helpful. I continued to follow for another five years or so because I found the outside perspective on American politics fascinating. The last few times I’ve tuned in, it’... more

  • Good takes

I listen to the Swedish public service equivalent and it is very insightful to hear the different takes and angles of the (often same) topics. Also from your US journalists. Keep up the good work, BBC and the Americast crew!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Will Trump invade Cuba?
Q: Is there any possibility of a military option or US troops moving to Cuba to capture Raul Castro?
The guest and hosts acknowledge that while military options have been discussed, such an action would carry significant risk and uncertainty, with emphasis on potential escalation and the complex political and humanitarian consequences.
Will Trump invade Cuba?
Q: Mr. President, what's coming next for Cuba?
The host summarizes that the next steps could involve continued legal pressure, potential negotiations over aid distribution, and a consideration of whether to pursue further coercive measures or even military options if diplomacy stalls.
The political fight for American men
Q: Scott, can I widen the conversation to where the US goes after Donald Trump?
Galloway expresses cautious optimism about a post-Trump shift, emphasizing the potential for moderates to push pragmatic solutions and for the political system to adapt to demographic and technological changes, though acknowledging risks of polarization and misalignment in messaging.
The political fight for American men
Q: You think the left are getting this wrong.
Scott responds that both sides miss the mark: the far right links masculinity with aggression and hostility, while the far left often urges women to perform closer to traditional roles, which fails to address young men's needs, creating a vacuum that can be exploited by extremist and reactionary voices.
Will ICE agents stay away from the 2026 World Cup?
Q: Are you going to any matches in Los Angeles?
Daniel Miller explains he has tickets to Iran matches in LA because they were affordable, highlighting how ticket prices and available deals influence fan attendance. He notes some matches are expensive, while others can be found at reasonable prices with careful searching.
