  • Sound very hit and miss

Like a lot of Times Radio output, the sound quality is very hit and miss, way too much bass, lots of studio rumblings, booming mics. Some episodes are almost unlistenable.

  • A bit hit and miss.

It can be enjoyable, informative, fun. I was thrown by a rather hostile interview recently by JG with Julien Clarey. She was tetchy and it was as if she was looking for something to have a go at him about. If you invite someone, at least have an idea what you want to talk to them about. And the sniffy, I don’t get Taskmaster, just silly. It felt like FG was called into rescue it. Julien C was as cool and urbane as you would expect.

Q: Do you have any insider information from the desk of the Times and Sunday Times?
Laura explains that the memoir controversy around Jason Arday is being handled with cautious, forthcoming reporting, with the UK edition following details after the US release and a quick review process.
The spirit of Bonnie Tyler is with us...
Q: What is the hopeful path forward when regulating patriarchal porn, and how can society move toward less harmful content?
The hopeful path involves recognizing that patriarchy is not fixed, implementing regulatory measures to reduce harmful material, holding platforms accountable, and promoting feminist or non-patriarchal pornography, supported by public campaigns and education to shift cultural norms and consumer choices.
The spirit of Bonnie Tyler is with us...
Q: Can you explain two things to us? Public toilet and blacked—what are they and why do they matter?
Public toilet is a shock video circulating online that depicts extreme humiliation and degradation, illustrating misogynistic trends in some porn content. Blacked refers to interracial porn genres that often reinforce harmful stereotypes; both examples demonstrate how certain categories normalize aggression and racialized sexual dynamics, highlighting the need for clearer regulation and critical media literacy.
Watering and tending to the clitoris (with Frank Gardner)
Q: How plausible is the NATO-evacuation scenario in Ballistic, and what themes are you exploring about Western alliances?
The scenario is deliberately non-specific in date to emphasize broader trends: long-standing alliances could be tested by shifting political priorities, with intelligence-sharing and defense commitments becoming more fragile, which Gardner uses to explore resilience and trust among partners.
Watering and tending to the clitoris (with Frank Gardner)
Q: Can you tell us about Luke Carlton and what makes Ballistic different from typical spy thrillers?
Ballistic focuses on a capable, often female, operational team and a geopolitical backdrop where alliances are fraying, rather than nonstop action; it's pacey, tightly plotted, and grounded in real-world security discussions.
