  • Stop repeating the same music.

Good content… when you eventually get to it over the endless repetition of truly annoying and irritating ‘showtunes’.

Quit this nonsense or I’m out!

    [UPDATE] I’m out.

  • Homes under the Hammer

Great podcast with interesting content, glad someone has decided to look closely at this subject.

However, the music drives me mad, it’s heading into Homes under the Hammer territory and is completely unnecessary.

  • Not a fan of the music

Love Nicky Campbell, love listening to his morning show so was really looking forward to this podcast - the content is great, really interesting but the music, it completely distracts from the content. Sorry to be negative but the choice and placement of the songs/jingles, whatever they are, really takes the listener away from the topic. Hope this is seen as constructive criticism, if the musical element changes I’ll certainly keep listening.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A spoonful of censorship
Q: When is the use of offensive language acceptable in art or literature?
It depends on intent and context: if the author or speaker is not deriving pleasure from offense and is presenting analysis, critique, or testimony, it can be defended as part of a broader discussion; if it's gratuitous or intended to harm, it's more likely to be rejected.
Punch Ups and Punchlines
Q: What about the concept of punching up and punching down?
The host introduces the concept, and Rosie Jones provides a framework for evaluating jokes based on who is being targeted, the speaker's experience, and the purpose of the joke, arguing for responsibility in comedy.
Suffering fools & making an impression
Q: Is the impersonation of Trump hateful?
The guest explains that maintaining neutrality and fidelity to the caricature, guided by writing quality, is essential; if you dislike someone, it still must be treated as satire rather than personal attack.
Winning battles, losing wars...
Q: Do you decide what you want to read or is someone else stopping you?
The discussion suggests a rising zeal about banning books and shows how decisions about what is read are influenced by local contexts, parental groups, and cultural politics, with strong opinions on whether some works should be restricted or contextualized rather than banned.
