Journalism at its best. So satisfying to see a couple of hucksters ,who have exploited people’s hope for their own personal gain, revealed to be the con artists they actually are. Brava!

I absolutely love “The real Salt Path” podcast. During the last few months I’ve followed the stream of revelations surrounding the Walkers, and still can’t fathom why their publisher, Penguin, hasn’t responded properly and publicly. Well done Chloe - I don’t think we’ve seen the last of this story yet…
This investigation IS needed, and I’m glad The Observer supported the reporter. We live in a time where grift is normalised (eg US President) so this investigation provides some comfort that not every grifter can forever lie their way to public acclaim. The Walkers will keep their wealth unfortunately, but hopefully they will fade from public view and Penguin Random House will not publish any more RW books.
One of the reviews here says this narrative attempts to insert a theme of misogyny into the miscarriages of injustice. Exploring the depths of an extreme sport, this series uncovers a fascinating yet troubling world where the thrill of freediving is overshadowed by allegations of doping and ethical dilemmas. Hosted by a travel writer who inadvertently enters this intense community, episodes feature firsthand accounts from athletes questioning the integrity of their sport amidst competitive pressures. The narrative not only highlights the physical challenges of freediving, achieving depths of over 120 meters, but also addresses the deeply systemic issues that allow doping to proliferate. Through a combination of personal stories and investigative journalism, listeners witness the emotional toll on athletes and the fight for accountability in a sport defined ... more
