Great show, had to listen to it all in one go! Unusual and very interesting story
I found the story as a whole worth the telling. What a dreadful experience for the victims and a good example of tech entrepreneurs wanting to make a quick buck over and above the security and well-being of their clients. But the analysis was poor and the storytelling didn’t hold me as a listener. Ending the story on the interview with the perpetrator gave him too much of a platform while psychologically we were miles away from the victims who were surely the emotional heart of the story. The Ratline and Tunnel 29 were super interesting and well told. Million dollar lover, though, I will likely stop listening to. The journalist seems to be siding so much with the daughters without providing the other view. There is a serious lack of discussion about the elderly having their own agency. An otherwise interesting podcast spoiled by making the presenter centre of the story.
This is the weakest so far from the Intrigue brand. It’s not the fault of the presenter or producer - just a really bad commissioning decision. The story is not strong enough to sustain a series - nowhere near enough twists and turns or suspense to make it worth the investment in time needed to get through the box set. I gave up near the end. Do better Radio 4 commissioners.
