  • Microscopic Colitis

I really appreciate the discussion on microscopic colitis. Because it is considered to basically have no known cause, no known cure, and doesn’t apparently lead to any further problems than the daily inconvenience, it doesn’t seem that anyone researches or treats the condition. But it causes so much havoc in the life of the person who has it! I have found very little additional information dealing with it, but feel better understanding how it’s been treated for someone with a severe case of it, ... more

  • Pretty good

It’s a very beneficial, informative podcast but lack knowledge on holistic/alternative ways to treat IBD instead of only managing the disease which isolates those of us that heal our disease in a different way. Surgery is not just a last resort option for me and others but something I don’t want to ever consider and that is okay.

  • Helpful to Parent of IBD Patient

My daughter was diagnosed with UC five months ago. I’d never even heard of it! No one in our family has IBD or an autoimmune disease. Listening to this podcast has helped normalize her disease and our situation. I love hearing the medical information and updates from doctors on the show. And hearing from everyday people who are living with it, especially ones who were diagnosed as children, is helpful to me as a mom, trying to understand IBD.

I have an hour commute (one way) twice a week, so I... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Medical Fatigue And IBD with Dr. AK Black
Q: How do you explain the difference between clinical hypnosis and entertainment hypnosis, and why is it useful for GI conditions?
Clinical hypnosis aims to reach an altered state of consciousness to access gut-brain pathways and reduce visceral hypersensitivity, which can be faster and more effective for GI issues than traditional CBT alone; it's backed by decades of research and tailored to patients' needs.
Medical Fatigue And IBD with Dr. AK Black
Q: What is your IBD story and what brought you into the GI psychology field?
I entered psychology because I had a strong interest in medicine and healthcare, and I discovered GI-related gut-brain interactions where behavioral health could complement medical treatment, especially through clinical hypnosis and CBT.
Meet Michael M. Author of "The Secret Life Of Crohn’s"
Q: Tell us your IBD story.
Michael describes being diagnosed at age 10, the rapid progression of symptoms, the initial treatments that didn't fully control the disease, the emotional toll of growing up with Crohn's, and the eventual decision to have surgery and receive an ostomy which radically improved his quality of life.
Meet Michael M. Author of "The Secret Life Of Crohn’s"
Q: What are you drinking?
I started with tea for a bit, but I also have had various beverages; in the moment I chose a straightforward, non-alcoholic option while we talked, to keep things light yet comfortable.
Navigating FMLA and ADA: A Guide for IBD Patients- with Abbe F.
