  • Ackerman bribed me…

…with the promise of snuggles and Eskimo kisses, but he’s a cute (and maniacally persistent) lil gremlin, so who am I to deny some TLC?

He didn’t like my first review from… 4 years ago…? Ask him, I guess… I don’t remember the date, but I he could definitely tell you. He told me that he wrote it in his diary and detailed so many sleepless nights. 😮‍💨

Real talk, though, these guys are great! BHOTD is an incredible resource in any of the wide and varied forms they offer to absorb it. The podca... more

  • Great for CrossFit... not so much for conspiracy theories

Decent podcast when it comes to to discussing CrossFit, but one of the hosts seems to have gone down the conspiracy theory funnel. It’s not something uncommon to see in some CrossFit circles, but being able to hold information objectively is fairly important. My hope is that spiral out doesn’t continue to make its way into the episodes.

What is Fitness? Part 1 | Breaking Down The CrossFit Level 1 Guide (Again)
Q: How do the four models inform real-world programming and why is variance important?
The four models are guideposts that help coaches structure workouts to touch all energy systems, maintain balance, and avoid over-specialization, with variance ensuring long-term adaptability and health.
What is Fitness? Part 1 | Breaking Down The CrossFit Level 1 Guide (Again)
Q: What does interval training look like in CrossFit, and why is stimulus more important than just the duration of work?
Interval training is defined by work-to-rest ratios and the stimulus, or relative intensity, of the effort; proper dose and rest, scaled to the athlete, are essential to train energy systems effectively across different time domains.
What is Fitness? Part 1 | Breaking Down The CrossFit Level 1 Guide (Again)
Q: Could you describe the hopper and what it means for programming when you pull workouts out of the hopper?
The hopper is a thought experiment that emphasizes preparing for any potential task by maintaining broad readiness across all ten skills, rather than chasing specific workouts; it suggests that you should be able to handle a wide range of tasks rather than hope for a特icular favored workout.
You Don't Have to Go All-In to Build a Serious Gym
Q: How did Nikki's path to CrossFit ownership begin, and what prompted the first major milestones?
Her journey started with crossing paths through a friend group, moving into CrossFit and gradually taking on a leadership role that included partnering with Erica and navigating an buyout and growth strategy, enabled by mentorship and access to programs like Best Days.
Understanding CrossFit | Breaking Down The CrossFit Level 1 Guide (Again)
Q: What is CrossFit's aim and why does understanding it matter for coaches?
CrossFit aims for broad, general, and inclusive fitness so athletes are prepared for any physical task in life; understanding this helps coaches explain why variety and functional movements matter and enables better conversations with clients about the value of seemingly different workouts.
