  • Why we no longer call ourselves yoga therapists

I’m glad I came across this episode! I am currently in a 300 YTT program and can transition into their yoga therapy program. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go the yoga therapy route but wanted to be in the best position if I decided to continue. This episode gave me a lot to think about and I think anyone considering yoga therapy would benefit from listening.

  • This podcast led me to join her 1:1 mentorship + Impact Club. Best decision ever!

Mado is an incredible teacher, and a business coach. She’s been in the trenches for a looong time to guide newbies and experienced teachers on every aspect of being a yoga teacher & a business owner. My work with her was awesome and impactful. I successfully transitioned from my corp job to become a full time (and now part time) yoga teacher and that too when moving to a brand new country, Canada. Sooo happy I found her.

    I can go on…

  • Very informative

The only reason I’m not giving five stars is due to the editor leaving the hosts daughter interrupting the conversation. It’s rude to your guest and unprofessional.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Teaching With an Injury with Juzbi Walia [On-Air Coaching Call]
Q: So if I'm hearing you correctly, the main limitations are you're struggling to walk and you feel like you can't demonstrate. And the big thing in your way is this idea of auditioning for a yoga studio, and showing them that you're capable as a teacher when you don't necessarily fit the blueprint for how you are seeing yoga being instructed in Delhi, which includes a lot of demonstration.
Correct, yes.
Hip Labral Tears & Yoga Practice with Dr. Libby Hinsley
Q: What should a yoga teacher do if a student has a known hip labral tear?
Focus on hip stability, modify postures for comfort, avoid end-range positions that provoke pain, consider one-on-one guidance to pinpoint movements that trigger symptoms, and encourage exploring alternatives to prevent pinching.
Hip Labral Tears & Yoga Practice with Dr. Libby Hinsley
Q: What is the labrum and how does it relate to hip joint stability?
The labrum is a cartilage ring around the hip socket that adds stability; tears can occur in various parts of the labrum and may be related to impingement, but diagnosing a tear is challenging and imaging isn't perfect.
Osteoperosis and Spinal Flexion with Dr Libby Hinsley
Q: What practical modifications can be used in common poses for those with osteoporosis in the spine?
Use variants that load the spine more safely, such as seated or supine forward folds, child's pose with exhale to neutral, and gradual progression; emphasize awareness of spinal position and avoid aggressive flexion unless risk is acknowledged and managed.
Osteoperosis and Spinal Flexion with Dr Libby Hinsley
Q: Should teachers avoid spinal flexion with everyone who is older or at risk?
Not blanket avoidance; assess individual risk, ask about bone density tests, and modify movements (like using seated or supported forward folds and child's pose variations) to reduce risk while preserving benefit.
