In this episode, I read and discuss the story behind the Keppoch Murders from Stuart McHardy’s The Well of the Heads, one of the most haunting episodes in the history of Clan Donald. This account explores the killing of the Keppoch chief and his brot... more
In this episode, I step away from a simple Highland–Lowland divide and draw on research from Wilson McLeod’s PhD thesis, Divided Gaels: Gaelic Scotland and Gaelic Ireland, 1200–1650 to show just how fragmented and uneven Gaelic Scotland really was. U... more

Just recently discovered this podcast along with the fact that I also have some Scottish ancestry. Love the history dive and the story telling that’s been intertwined with it. Curious to see how far back in the MacDonald line my history runs and hopefully between what we have on ancestry.com and their DNA test I just did can fill in the missing pieces. Also, fun fact my wife along with several others will be doing an interview with our esteemed host Mr. Clint and their efforts to stop the sale o... more

A good mix between all scholarly research and storytelling. Fun to listen to.
I started with the first episode and just finished 37. My interest is to learn more about Scotland’s history and culture as that is the dominant region of my dna. I learned from this podcast that there is a list of current Scottish clans and found three of my family surnames listed. I understand that doesn’t necessarily mean I am descended from them but I still like to learn about the region. My father was a Cunningham, my mother a Guthrie, and my paternal grandmother was a Weems.
