Loved the episode on St Francis! As a vegetarian, he’s always been my fav. Great guest…very fun listen. And the staff memories on being in nativity plays was so adorable to hear!

  • Great topics, great guests, poor writing, poor hosting

Dr. Janega makes frequent mistakes, enough to be distracting. When she quotes Shakespeare’s Hotspur about Owain Glendower, she doesn’t seem to know that Hotspur is being insulting. She opens another episode by asking us to imagine the “dusty road” between Tunis and Salerno. I get it, that it’s just a figure of speech. But it’s also so wrong as to be jarring.

  • Eleanor Janega is an awful host

I LOVE this podcast, first and foremost. I found it recently and haven’t quite caught up yet so i’m happy bingeing away. Matt Lewis is amazing, but replacing Cat Jarman with Dr. Janega was a significant downgrade. Her vocal fry and haughty accent is so contrived as if she’s talking down to the audience (this is coming from a Canadian, so it’s not about her being American) and it’s hard to listen to. Beyond that, her episodes contain more of her just showing off what she knows about the subject ... more

  • Please stop using ChatGPT to write the intros

Love the content but the intros are like fingernails on a blackboard with the generic ChatGPT language. The latest one on the wind was filled with gibberish metaphors, “picture this”, and “not just x but y”. I get writing intros is not fun but if you must use AI then please do some research on the giveaway phrases and words ChatGPT slops out and try and avoid falling into the traps :)
