  • Patriarchal

I did like this podcast until Prof gave the whole “just relax and it’ll happen” spiel. Oh yes, the hysterical woman just needs to take an Ativan and relax and she too will fall pregnant. That’s why refugees and prisoners of war and rape victims fall pregnant. Because of their low levels of cortisol. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

No! If you’re having trouble getting pregnant, seek help! There could be something wrong and you’ll waste precious reproductive years “just trying to relax”.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

535. Recurrent Miscarriage Explained: Which Tests Matter and What Actually Helps
Q: For recurrent miscarriage, which baseline tests are worth doing and which results actually change treatment?
Baseline testing should focus on ensuring there is no chromosomal issue like balanced translocation, evaluating the uterus for structural problems, and considering antiphospholipid syndrome and thrombophilia—tests with a clear diagnostic and therapeutic pathway. Immunological tests beyond evidence-based ones are generally not helpful, and if an test result would not change management, it may be prudent to avoid it.
529.The Science and Uncertainty of IVF Success Rates
Q: How long do you think I should wait before I try again?
Professor Chapman suggests that recovery from anesthesia and pain is more crucial than the gallbladder surgery itself, and if the patient recovers well in about a month, they should be fine to move ahead.

Q: What other cycles are feasible for older ladies?
Options include a natural cycle and ensuring embryos undergo genetic testing to avoid failure.

Q: When do you recommend laparoscopy in unexplained infertility?
Laparoscopy is recommended if there are symptoms or signs of endometriosis, otherwise good ultrasound results may suffice.
