  • Extremely helpful and validating

I am a bit surprised at how helpful Dr. Stern’s podcast has been, making me feel ‘less crazy’, and less like I am the ‘bad and wrong’ member of the family. Episodes 7 and 15 in particular have had guests who have so bravely articulated their experience of being invalidated by their family, but have mirrored some of my own past experiences so similarly that I feel seen but also hopeful that ‘it’s not just me’. Thank you Dr. Stern for hosting this podcast.

  • Excellent and well executed

Dr. Stern is compassionate and determined to clear the air in terms of what gaslighting (luz de gas) is, different contexts in which it occurs and how awareness can help us find a way out of inappropriate or harmful situations and relationships. Fully recommend!

  • Amazing

Wow!!!!! This podcast is so enlightening. It really high

Ights the subtleties of how gaslighting starts and how so many of us live under another person’s control without realising it. Even believing that this behaviour is normal and acceptable.

Breaking the Self-Doubt Loop: Elisha Goldstein on Gaslighting and Tiny Shifts
Q: Can you reiterate the four Rs for our listeners?
The four Rs are Recognize, Release, Refocus, and Reinforce, a simple sequence designed to give you space, reframe your response, and solidify the new, healthier pattern through conscious awareness and practice.
Breaking the Self-Doubt Loop: Elisha Goldstein on Gaslighting and Tiny Shifts
Q: If you find it hard to release, like, what would be your suggestion?
Release is not about being totally relaxed; it's about shifting your tendency from avoidance or reactivity toward a gentler approach that softens the body and expands the pause, moving a little bit toward stillness and awareness so you can refocus more effectively.
Breaking the Self-Doubt Loop: Elisha Goldstein on Gaslighting and Tiny Shifts
Q: And what I loved is even when I started reading the book, I loved this beginning, it's in your intro. What happens if somebody doesn't know how to recognize, doesn't know what they're looking for in recognizing?
Recognize is the foundation: you first name what you feel, whether it's a thought, a physical sensation, or an emotional state, which creates space between stimulus and response. The goal is to become aware of emotional loops and to label them so you can pause and choose a calmer, more intentional path forward.
Nonviolent Communication at Home: Margot Magowan on Parenting Without Gaslighting
Q: How is Nonviolent Communication different from just good communication or kindness?
The host and Margot discuss that NBC emphasizes understanding and addressing underlying needs, prioritizing self-awareness, and recognizing power dynamics in parenting, rather than simply being courteous; it also requires willingness to hear a 'no' and to balance empathy with boundaries.
Nonviolent Communication at Home: Margot Magowan on Parenting Without Gaslighting
Q: So Margot, how did you get from Woodhull to Nonviolent Communication?
Margot explains that after early leadership work and personal challenges, including her daughter's behavioral health issues, she embraced Nonviolent Communication to better support her family, which evolved from a scripted practice to a more fluid NBC consciousness that centers on listening and meeting needs.
