  • In 2026, we should know better by now

I kept forgetting to review BTB but I have a second to do so now: I listened to this for a few years but I had to stop because of robert. There are other, more thoughtful, more vigorously researched podcasts out there whose host acknowledge and take seriously all forms of oppression and how they exacerbate one another. As a Black american that’s important to me but it should also be important to a show talking about HISTORY and its impact on the present. This podcast, like too many other ‘progr... more

  • I thought I was going to like this, but….

This popped up in my recommendations and sounded right up my alley. Started with SEAL Team 6 Ep 1 and only made it 16 minutes. I’m normally one who enjoys unscripted banter from the hosts, but this just wasn’t working for me. The only way I can think to describe it is like someone reading a Reddit thread out loud to me. It’s exhausting.

  • Neat show, odd fans

Robert and the script carry the show, ad breaks are what they are and easily skipped, and overall the topics covered are interesting which Ive enjoyed.

Recently Ive noticed an uptic in reviews saying any criticism of sophie is directly connected to misogyny…come on yall are we listening to the same show? Also are you all bots? I see significantly less examples of her positive additions to the show from these types of reviewers and that makes me suspicious.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Part Two: The Origins of Terror in Palestine
Q: Donna, do you want to plug anything up front before we get back into the story?
The guest plugs the 'handbook on authoritarianism in the Arab world' and notes open access, suggesting listeners consult it for further reading.
Part One: Mark Fuhrman: The Most Racist Cop, or Merely Normal Racist Cop?
Q: What role did Fuhrman play in the OJ Simpson case and the surrounding publicity?
The hosts argue Fuhrman's racist reputation and the tapes released later significantly undermined the prosecution's case by casting doubt on the integrity of the evidence and police work, contributing to Simpson's acquittal and triggering a broader scrutiny of LAPD practices.
It Could Happen Here Weekly 234
Q: How did the union organizing accelerate so quickly?
Two initial meetings built momentum: a swift vote to form the union at the first gathering, followed by a second meeting with union representatives that confirmed ongoing support and allowed onboarding with a preferred union, enabling rapid escalation.
Part One: The Orgasm Cult
Q: How does Hildegard of Bingen fit into the discussion of sex and power?
Hildegard is discussed as an historical counterpoint whose writings on female sexuality are described as prototypical in understanding women's sexual agency, which the hosts connect to the later moral and medical narratives around sex in Western history, including modern reclamations of female pleasure.
It Could Happen Here Weekly 231
Q: What risks do journalists face in Lebanon according to the interviewee, and how is this affecting reporting?
Journalists face direct killings, double-tap strikes, threats via text messages, and a broader culture of impunity; this has led to self-censorship, restricted access to front-line areas, and a chilling effect that hampers independent reporting.
