  • I thought I knew a lot about history, but this show always reminds me that there are an infinite number of small stories that happened around, among, and in-between the major events you read about in textbooks. The world is a better and stranger place than we realize - all we have to do is look a little further than the surface level to find them. Margaret is also just one of the coolest hosts out there! She's lived an incredible life and has a lot of perspective to offer.

  • Fun enough

Lots of jokes and laughing, something that I find distracting. So take this review fwiw. Would like a little more storytelling.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Part One: The Lusty Lady: The Worker-Owned Peep Show
Q: What is the difference between decriminalization and legalization in sex work policy?
Decriminalization removes criminal penalties and aims for equal labor protections, while legalization creates a government-regulated framework that often imposes surveillance, health checks, and fiduciary controls that can constrain workers.
Part One: The Lusty Lady: The Worker-Owned Peep Show
Q: What is the Lusty Lady and why is it historically significant?
It was one of the first worker-owned, unionized sex workplaces in the U.S., demonstrating how workers could gain collective bargaining power and ownership in an industry that is frequently criminalized and stigmatized.
Part Two: The Lusty Lady: The Worker-Owned Peep Show
Q: How did the Lusty Lady transition from a traditional theater to a worker-owned coop?
The workers organized through the SEIU, leveraged cooperative finance networks, and ultimately purchased the business from the owners, creating Looking Glass Collective as the worker-owned entity.
Part One: Christopher B. Zeichmann on Radical Antiquity
Q: But there was like five generals, right?
Yes, there were several generals including figures such as Onomaeus and Cripsus, indicating a more collective leadership structure rather than a single commander directing all.
Part One: Ben Passmore on Black History
Q: What led you to decide that this is a project that you wanted to do?
Ben Passmore shares that his interest in this project was sparked by personal confusion and a desire to dive into Black radical history, particularly after the events surrounding the murder of Philando Castile.
