I listen to Switched On because the topics covered are really focused on the householder and the good things and the traps for you g players that are out there when you’re trying to electrify your home and get off Fossil Fuels. In addition to that they always get really high quality well informed people o. The show and the interviewer always asks the important questions without turning the interview i to a debate. All in all it’s just an excellent program.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How to escape the gas death spiral
Q: Why is accelerated depreciation controversial, and what is Energy Consumers Australia's stance?
Accelerated depreciation pre-pays for future pipeline costs, shifting costs to consumers upfront; ECA argues it transfers losses to consumers rather than reducing overall costs, and should be balanced with networks bearing some losses to avoid unfair outcomes.
How to escape the gas death spiral
Q: What is the basic problem with the current regulatory framework for gas networks?
The regulations assume a growing gas network and distribute costs across a broad base, which becomes unfair and unsustainable as the network shrinks and more customers leave gas, leading to higher costs for remaining users and stranded assets.
CHOICE vs the energy ‘saver’ plans that actually cost you more
Q: Can you explain what a Super Complaint is?
A Super Complaint is a new framework that gives Choice and a couple of other organizations special status to make a complaint directly to the ACCC, with annual responses within 90 days for issues that are widespread or cause acute harm, and with the commitment that the ACCC will publicly respond.
The misinformation machine – how doubt fuels delay
Q: So I just want to start with a fairly general question. Why did you want to set up this committee? Why is it so important to identify misinformation and disinformation about climate and energy?
Whish-Wilson explains that misinformation threatens climate action, that global patterns and ongoing disinformation campaigns undermine policy, and that there is a need to understand who is funding and coordinating these efforts to safeguard public debate and policy outcomes.
The renewables lifeline for farmers
Q: Can you give me some examples of how these companies behaved in the early years?
Charlie describes experiences where some developers negotiated aggressively, sometimes using non-disclosure agreements to prevent hosts from talking to each other, and emphasizes the importance of insisting on fair terms, having lawyers review contracts, and aiming for equal partnership rather than mere leasing.
