  • The Party Room

Hmmm Jacob says that the Liberals got trashed and it is an existential crisis but then in the same breath says that if Labor had run a candidate he thinks they maybe would have got 5% of the vote - ie LESS than the vote the Liberals achieved. Back to class for you Jacob.

  • Forever a political nerd!

    Keeps getting better!

It’s so clear that everyone involved with this show/feed has respect for the loyal audience. Thanks for making more time for Q&A recently, I think it’s making for great conversations and expanding my own thoughts.

PK has her critics I know, but we need more women who put their heart on their sleeve and stand for something.

  • Giving Up

I keep listening to each podcast hoping against hope that Karvelas finally has something good to say about the labor party and or their policies. For 50 yrs I have been a swinging voter & I get so fed up with people who aren’t big enough to give credit where credit is due. They have not been the only ones that have been in power over the years, but she completely glosses over or excuses their part in getting things to where they are now. It could’ve been a great podcast & fortunately I have othe... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Budget bills, 'wedgies' and a teal party
Q: How might Tony Abbott's leadership affect the Liberal Party's strategy against One Nation?
The discussion frames Abbott as a high-energy, potentially divisive figure whose approach could be both a strength and a risk, possibly overshadowing other leaders and complicating party unity.
Budget bills, 'wedgies' and a teal party
Q: What's the potential impact of a teal party idea on the Liberal Party and overall political dynamics?
Grattan outlines that teals could pull centrist voters and funding dynamics may pressure independents; the idea is unlikely to form a broad-based party soon, but it changes how centrists position themselves and how elections may unfold.
Budget bills, 'wedgies' and a teal party
Q: Is this budget considered an unholy rush or business as usual for budget tax bills, as the government claims?
Michelle Grattan suggests it's more of a pragmatic rush with ongoing consultations rather than a full-bore rush, noting the arithmetic in the lower house and the likelihood of limited support from the Greens.
Tech sector warns tax could "double" under CGT changes | Insiders on Background
Q: Is there a possibility of a startup carve-out or a broader, more suitable framework?
There is ongoing discussion; the goal is a solution that avoids unintended consequences and maintains competitiveness, but the exact mechanism is not yet determined.
Tech sector warns tax could "double" under CGT changes | Insiders on Background
Q: What would these CGT changes mean for the tech sector if applied to startups and founders?
They would raise the cost base and potentially double the tax burden for many, deterring risk-taking and investment, and possibly forcing some to re-evaluate staying in Australia.
