  • Giving Up

I keep listening to each podcast hoping against hope that Karvelas finally has something good to say about the labor party and or their policies. For 50 yrs I have been a swinging voter & I get so fed up with people who aren’t big enough to give credit where credit is due. They have not been the only ones that have been in power over the years, but she completely glosses over or excuses their part in getting things to where they are now. It could’ve been a great podcast & fortunately I have othe... more

This would be perfect if you referenced yourself a bit less and talked about how good you are just a bit less.

Slow hand clap Speersy’. Letting the Israeli propagandist justify killing civilians barely challenged by fawning sycophantic journalist David Speers . Bravo.

  • No real insight

Fran and PK don’t provide great analysis. They focus more on personality politics and are really poor interviewers. Their ability for true reflection and insight is not that strong. Good at replaying political lines, less good at any critique - but that’s the ABC these days

Farrer by-election: The issues that will determine who wins | Insiders
Q: What are the main issues on voters' minds in the by-election?
Voters highlight hospital capacity and staffing, housing affordability, and immigration as central themes, with many expressing a desire for real solutions and change from traditional parties.
How productivity can save the Australian economy | Insiders
Q: How should concerns about cost of living be balanced with the goal of long-term productivity?
In the short term, targeted supports can help those most affected by inflation, but the long-run answer lies in productivity gains that improve living standards without perpetuating higher prices, hence a focus on regulatory reform and investment in efficiency across the economy.
How productivity can save the Australian economy | Insiders
Q: Will changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax truly boost productivity or simply shift tax burdens?
There is potential for productivity gains if reform reduces distortions and broadens the base, but it must be paired with lower overall tax rates or targeted relief to avoid slowing investment; grandfathering and transitional arrangements will shape the real-world impact on housing and investment decisions.
How productivity can save the Australian economy | Insiders
Q: What does productivity mean in practical terms for policy makers ahead of the budget?
Productivity means increasing the value of what is produced with the same inputs, which involves addressing distortions in investment incentives (like tax rules), reducing unnecessary red tape, and improving the regulatory framework to enable firms to invest and grow without adding inflationary pressure.
Jim Chalmers is running up that inflation hill
Q: Shane, what does the CPI figure imply for the upcoming budget and monetary policy?
It signals pressure for the central bank to consider further rate moves, while policymakers must balance inflation with growth, and the budget will need to address the inflationary environment without stifling recovery, especially as energy costs are a key driver.
