  • Milly

I listen to a lot of podcasts (instead of radio) and listen to 3-4 news podcasts as I get ready each day. This podcast used to be my first or second go to every day. For the last few months I find myself not listening, the topics seem to be rehashing the same views every day. Please go back to the diverse reporting on diverse topics.

  • A little out of touch

Samantha Hawley laughing at matters which are deadly serious or which have harmed people is inappropriate. Otherwise excellent content.

  • Food for thought!

This is something that just popped into my head while listening to this podcast. It is stimulating food for thought. Looking forward to more insight as to global developments evolve in unpredictable ways.

    TACO, NACHO , now ‘PADDY’

It’s a PADDY! Pump And Dump; Damm Ya(all)!

This only works if the market remains buoyant. Often overlooked is the notion that a stock market boom effectively prints more money a.k.a. unrealised capital gains.

The reporting feels more alarmist, conservative and click-baity than it ever used to be.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is this what a forever war looks like?
Q: Can we call this the beginning of a forever war?
The guest explains that while there is no formal end state, the pattern mirrors extended conflicts where strategic objectives remain elusive and disengagement is difficult due to regional power dynamics and recurring provocations.
How will Telstra pay for its network meltdown?
Q: What lessons could be learned from Optus' outage, and what reforms might we expect from government oversight moving forward?
The discussion notes previous outages at Optus, government reviews like the Bean Review, and potential reforms such as stronger regulatory oversight, clearer minimum standards for reliability, and possible adjustments to how essential services like telecommunications are regulated to deter future failures.
How will Telstra pay for its network meltdown?
Q: All right, Michael, why don't we consider further now what caused this outage and what compensation Telstra customers might be owed?
Michael explains that Telstra has attributed the outage to a software defect in time synchronization nodes, with internal sources suggesting faulty software updates caused clocks to reset, triggering a cascade of failures; compensation would depend on proof of loss and would be assessed case by case, including direct claims to Telstra or through the TIO if unsatisfied.
Why Trump's so sensitive about Air Force One
Q: What did the reporting reveal about the security measures and why did officials switch to the older Air Force One for certain trips?
Investigative reporting indicated that defense systems and anti-missile features were not fully installed yet, prompting officials to switch to a more trusted, older Air Force One for safety on sensitive trips, especially in volatile regions like the Middle East and Europe.
Why Trump's so sensitive about Air Force One
Q: David, why did this happen in the open, and what were the immediate concerns when the Qatar gift became public?
The gift was publicly discussed because it involved a major national asset. The immediate concerns centered on security vulnerabilities, how the plane would be integrated into the fleet, and the legal/constitutional questions about whether it belonged to the nation or to the president personally.
