  • Milly

I listen to a lot of podcasts (instead of radio) and listen to 3-4 news podcasts as I get ready each day. This podcast used to be my first or second go to every day. For the last few months I find myself not listening, the topics seem to be rehashing the same views every day. Please go back to the diverse reporting on diverse topics.

  • A little out of touch

Samantha Hawley laughing at matters which are deadly serious or which have harmed people is inappropriate. Otherwise excellent content.

  • Food for thought!

This is something that just popped into my head while listening to this podcast. It is stimulating food for thought. Looking forward to more insight as to global developments evolve in unpredictable ways.

    TACO, NACHO , now ‘PADDY’

It’s a PADDY! Pump And Dump; Damm Ya(all)!

This only works if the market remains buoyant. Often overlooked is the notion that a stock market boom effectively prints more money a.k.a. unrealised capital gains.

  • Not the same

The reporting feels more alarmist, conservative and click-baity than it ever used to be.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Russian drones stalking civilians
Q: How is the Ukrainian drone industry structured and what makes it effective?
The guest explains the Ukrainian drone industry as highly decentralized, involving many small companies that directly engage with frontline units, allowing rapid iteration and front-line feedback that improves drone capabilities quickly.
The Russian drones stalking civilians
Q: Let's start by talking about Yuri. Tell me about him and what happened to him.
Anne Applebaum offers context on Yuri, a civilian vegetable seller, who was pursued by a Russian drone; the incident illustrates how drones target civilians and blur the line between battlefield and everyday life.
Alan Kohler on why house prices will keep falling
Q: Do you think rates will stay high for a long time?
Yes, the current investment boom in AI and defense spending suggests longer-term forces that could keep higher rates in play, even if there are occasional rate cuts in the short term.
Alan Kohler on why house prices will keep falling
Q: What role do immigration and population growth play in housing affordability and prices?
Immigration and population growth influence demand; policies shifting forecast targets could alter demand levels, but much of the impact depends on whether supply can meet demand without pushing prices higher again.
Alan Kohler on why house prices will keep falling
Q: Why might we see a continued fall in house prices despite some pockets of resilience?
The pattern is driven by a combination of higher ongoing interest rates, tightening tax concessions for investors, and affordability issues; these factors reduce demand while supply remains constrained due to construction labor shortages, delaying any quick rebound.
