  • Perfect

Carrington Clarke’s sonorous voice and sultry undertones give me the strength to keep goin, and I would happily submit to sacrifice by fire in honor of his longevity. ABC Business Daily is the only reason I’ve started wearing a seatbelt to work.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

An overhaul of electricity
Q: Take us through, what is the problem they're trying to solve and what is one of their suggestions to how to solve it?
The problem is that the traditional tariff model, which charged based on electricity consumption, no longer fairly recoups network costs as households install solar and batteries and use the grid differently. One major suggestion is to move toward more fixed charges plus time-of-use or surge pricing to better reflect when the network is used and to encourage load shifting.
An overhaul of electricity
Q: First, can you give us a run through of what the AEMC is and what it does and why they are releasing this report?
The AEMC is the regulator that oversees the rules of the national electricity market, essentially setting the framework for how the grid operates and how prices are arrive at. The report aims to address how pricing needs to adapt to rising solar and storage at the consumer level, to ensure fairness and avoid under- or over-investment in the network.
Viva's Scott Wyatt on a fire and a fuel crisis
Q: Given the margins and import parity, should prices be kept lower for consumers if possible?
Wyatt argues that maintaining supply through domestic refineries remains important and that margins must balance profitability with the need to keep fuel available, noting the role of imports as alternatives and the government's support mechanisms to keep the system running.
Viva's Scott Wyatt on a fire and a fuel crisis
Q: What is the status of production and how long until full restart?
Wyatt explains the plan to operate at reduced capacity initially, with the aim of returning to higher efficiency over the coming weeks as units are inspected and deemed safe to restart, potentially reaching near-full production later depending on unit conditions.
Viva's Scott Wyatt on a fire and a fuel crisis
Q: How did you find out about the fire and what were you doing at the time?
Wyatt describes being in contact with the refinery's general manager late at night and rushing to the site, with the incident quickly bringing together response teams and communications work as the focus shifted toward safety and stabilizing operations.
