  • So helpful

This has made the mad candidate trawl to sort out who is and isn’t ticking the boxes so much easier. Quickest and easiest way to get a feel for the new candidates in particular. Listen on 1.5 speed and you can fly through. I know it’s been a mammoth task for the production team but it is definitely worth it.

  • Best election resource

As far as job selection processes go when applied to Deputies, effectively the manifesto is the CV, and this podcast is the interview we all needed - really brings to life the soft skills, ideas and personalities of a candidate. I had No’s that became a yes, and some yes that became a no off the back of these!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

By-election interview: Sam Haskins
Q: What would you do immediately if elected to affect public finances and spending?
Focus on three areas—savings, accountability, and reducing the cost of living—using committee work, amendments, and targeted questions to drive concrete changes from day one.
By-election interview: Sam Haskins
Q: Why did you decide to engage with media more about this by-election, after not participating in earlier podcasts?
I wanted voters to hear from me directly, recognizing that past interviews were used by people deciding how to vote; I apologize for my earlier absence and aim to provide more accessible, frequent updates.
By-election interview: Sam Haskins
Q: What is your plan for dealing with GST or GST+ if you are elected for the remainder of the term?
My position is not to back GST or GST+ for the rest of this term; any potential changes would depend on substantial shifts in policy and evidence, and I would reassess for a future term.
By-election interview: Nikki Symons
Q: What makes you distinctive in this field and why should voters choose you?
Symons highlights her two decades of civil service experience, knowledge of the committee system, strong relationships across government, a pragmatic and transparent approach, and a focus on deliverables and accountability rather than ideology.
By-election interview: Jonathan Wilson
Q: Can you tell us why you are standing? Why do you want to be a deputy, and why now?
Wilson explains his decision to stand in response to ongoing concerns about public finances, housing, and planning, arguing for credible alternatives to the current GST Plus plan and highlighting the need for growth, energy self-sufficiency, and reform.
