  • Intelligently voiced views

I have been wanting a political podcast which aligns with my political views for some time. Being slightly right of centre with a longing for intelligent and non inflammatory ideas this is refreshing! Both hosts bounce off each other well and I wish we had had this podcast prior to Gove going for the premiership as it may have swung it for me as he comes across well. Both are great!

  • Quite wrong!

Just mind-numbingly soulless, uninspired and insipid, not helped in the least by the frankly insufferable Maddy who really ought to ease up on the ceaseless pearl-clutching and frequent interruptions.

As an erstwhile lifelong Tory, this programme highlights why I’m now a politically homeless voter. Whether from the Speccie or the Tories themselves, this same brand of “radical far-centrism” (in the words of J C Clark, I think) got Britain into this dire state to begin with. Evidently, we are al... more

As a lifelong Tory – once upon a time, anyway – this programme highlights why I am now a voter without a political home. This radical “far-centrism” (in the words of JCD Clark?) got Britain into this dire state to begin with. “We are all Blairites now,” they might well demur. Nor does Maddy’s rel... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Local elections preview: how bad will it be for Labour?
Q: How widespread do you think the AI usage issue is in journalism, and is it okay for journalists to use AI?
AI can be useful as a research aid and for exploring ideas, but it cannot replace human thinking or be responsible for the final argument; thorough checking is essential to avoid hallucinations.
Local elections preview: how bad will it be for Labour?
Q: Our first question comes from Michael Bartlett. Now the local elections are less than a month away, I'd love to know your predictions.
They anticipate Labour performing poorly, especially in London, with potential gains for Greens and Reform elsewhere, while Westminster and Wandsworth may see Conservative strength in affluent areas.
Anas Sarwar: why I said Starmer should go – and what I told Wes Streeting
Q: How do you see Scotland shaping its economy and energy policy differently from the SNP?
He argues for a diversified, win-win approach that embraces renewables while protecting jobs in traditional sectors, expanding supply chains domestically, and leveraging Scotland's innovation capacity to become a hub for AI, health tech, and advanced manufacturing within the UK framework.
Anas Sarwar: why I said Starmer should go – and what I told Wes Streeting
Q: What are the biggest failures you see in SNP governance, and what would Labour do differently in those areas?
Sarwar highlights economic mismanagement, failure to reform public services, and a focus on blame rather than delivering practical solutions. He pledges to fix Scotland's economy, invest in education with more teachers and resources, and pursue a more stable, long-term approach to public services and growth.
Anas Sarwar: why I said Starmer should go – and what I told Wes Streeting
Q: What would you say to a voter who asks about independence, and why you wouldn't pursue a referendum now?
He states clearly that he does not support independence or a referendum at the moment, arguing that Scotland's immediate priorities are improving healthcare, education, and economic opportunity, and that a decision on independence should come from future generational considerations rather than current policy needs.
