Reviews

4.8 out of 5 stars from 11 ratings
  • Great (except for the sound levels)

Generally good and informative content, look forward to hearing from Warren each week, useful insight into what is happening in the industry and most weeks there is something to take away and do some further research on. I have to agree with the previous review about the sound. The presenter sounds like he is talking into a megaphone and the music is awful and played at an offensive volume. Still, it is worth enduring for the content.

  • Could be better.

Really interesting content, however the sound levels are appalling. I try to listen whilst driving and it’s either too quiet to hear or the music blasts out at full volume. I also find it funny how one guy always says ‘yes I’m good thanks ’ even though no one asked how he was.

Fire Safety Matters Podcast - Episode 44
Q: What are the differences between conventional and addressable fire alarm systems for schools?
Conventional systems are cheaper and suitable for small, simple schools but only indicate the general area of a fault. Addressable systems provide precise detector identification, enabling faster responses, but require higher upfront costs and expertise.
Fire Safety Matters Podcast - Episode 44
Q: How do different fire alarm categories apply to schools and what informs the choice of system?
School risk assessments drive the choice; larger, multi-story schools typically use L1 or L2 for higher protection, while smaller schools may use L3 or L4. Occupancy patterns and hearing-impaired considerations influence detection and audible/visual alert strategies.
Fire Safety Matters Podcast - Episode 44
Q: What are the primary fire risks in educational settings, and how preventable are incidents like deliberate fires in UK schools?
The discussion highlighted arson as a major risk, particularly out of hours, alongside electrical faults, faulty equipment, and lithium-ion batteries. Prevention hinges on thorough risk assessments, robust maintenance, and targeted controls like proper storage and regular servicing to minimize preventable incidents.
Fire Safety Matters Podcast - Episode 46
Q: How can fire safety and alarm systems support Martyn's Law in practice?
Systems need to balance evacuation with lockdown capabilities, provide clear multi-tone and mass notification options, and be designed around risk assessments that reflect the specific building use and occupant profiles.
Fire Safety Matters Podcast - Episode 48
Q: What common compliance issues do you see in the sector, and how do standards and FIA guidance help prevent them?
Common issues include missing or misoriented zone plans and incomplete logbooks; standards and FIA guidance emphasize accurate zone plans, proper documentation, and alignment with current installation practices, supported by CPD and official accreditations.
