  • Like a conversation with a friend

I have really been enjoying A Grateful Life. First, the title says it all - I think the world would be better served by focusing on what’s good and that we’re grateful for instead of the alternative. Second, the topics are wonderful and thought-provoking. As a yoga teacher, I’m particularly interested in utilizing yoga as a gentle way to work with our nervous systems. Every session I’ve listened to feels like I’m in conversation with a friend.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Amy Landry - On the Ocean of Yoga
Q: What does it mean to be a yoga teacher, and how do we know when we're ready to teach?
Teaching eligibility, or adhikara, is about assimilation through sustained study and practice, acting as a steward of yoga with integrity, rather than rushing to teach; readiness comes from depth of understanding, reverence for tradition, and the ability to guide transformation in students.
Amy Landry - On the Ocean of Yoga
Q: Could you talk us through the four aims of life?
The four aims—Dharma (purpose), Artha (prosperity), Kama (pleasure with reverence), and Moksha (liberation)—are a framework for living yoga within the household context, guiding how we align duties, resources, enjoyment, and spiritual freedom across life stages.
Amy Landry - On the Ocean of Yoga
Q: What is yoga to you?
Yoga is a path, a state of being, a toolkit of techniques, and an inward orientation that leads us toward higher states of consciousness, with asana acting as the doorway but not the entirety of the practice.
Elaine Aron - On the Enlightened Highly Sensitive Person
Q: How should highly sensitive people approach work and career to avoid drudgery and find meaning?
Identify work that aligns with your deepest interests (craft or calling), seek environments that respect sensitivity (windows, quiet spaces), and prioritize practices that sustain you, like downtime, boundaries, and supportive communities.
Elaine Aron - On the Enlightened Highly Sensitive Person
Q: What is the core definition of spirituality and enlightenment as you see it?
Spirituality is a meaningful orientation that can be understood in multiple ways; enlightenment is a state of brain coherence and equanimity achieved through meditation and mindful practice, not something granted by belief alone.
