  • Insights on how to practice a better life

I have listened to Pulling The Thread for a few years now, and keep coming back to how authentic and accessible these conversations and solo episodes are. Elise is upfront about producing this herself and the challenges therein, and in the meantime offers up incredibly rich (deep) life topics and expert voices. In a sea of shows on wellness or mindfulness etc., this is my favorite. Anyone slightly attracted to it will be inclined to really commit for the full journey after one or two episodes.

  • Great

Insightful guests and hosted, and I always learn a lot. I have just one comment about the episode on mattering ==== when you donate to a nonprofit, just think you’re paying for the electricity there or you’re paying for an employees salary or health insurance. It doesn’t always have to be for a just know that you’re paying so that people can earn a living wage and do the work those that have the expertise. That should be enough that matters.

  • Love the content HATE the ads

I love the content but I’m so incredibly fatigued with being sold to incessantly. Especially when some of the ads seem to be in conflict with the content.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Remembering How to Play—Even When We're All Grown-Up (Cas Holman)
Q: You talk about the 'adult voice' vs. the 'play voice.' How can someone start to listen to the play voice in situations like commuting, shopping, or social settings?
She suggests recognizing the inner critic, intentionally creating small opportunities for playful actions (like dancing in a grocery aisle or trying a new, low-stakes activity), and slowly expanding those moments into regular, low-pressure play that strengthens wellbeing.
Remembering How to Play—Even When We're All Grown-Up (Cas Holman)
Q: Well, thanks for joining me. How do you see play functioning as a daily practice for adults in a world that feels dark and chaotic?
Cas explains that playful inquiry and keeping creativity visible in everyday routines helps people stay connected, flexible, and resilient, turning distractions into meaningful engagement rather than escape.
The 3 Great Insights of Kabbalah (Daniel Matt, PhD)
Q: What is Ayin and why is it important in Kabbalah?
Ayin, or nothingness, represents the unknowable essence of God beyond being, a paradox that allows God to be infinitely transcendent. It anchors the mystics' negative theology and underpins the idea that creation emerges from divine no-thingness.
The 3 Great Insights of Kabbalah (Daniel Matt, PhD)
Q: What is the Zohar and how does it relate to the Bible and to Kabbalah?
The Zohar is the central, transformative commentary on the Bible, not a standalone Torah, and it frames rabbinic and Kabbalistic teachings as a system where biblical narratives are reread to reveal mystical meanings. It is the underyling text that shapes Kabbalah's approach to God, creation, and ethical living.
Past-Life Memories, Near-Death Experiences, and More (Marieta Pehlivanova, PhD)
Q: What was the spark or inciting event that made you have these big questions?
Marieta Pehlivanova realized she could apply academic scientific research tools to study consciousness and metaphysical questions after starting meditation.
