  • Insights on how to practice a better life

I have listened to Pulling The Thread for a few years now, and keep coming back to how authentic and accessible these conversations and solo episodes are. Elise is upfront about producing this herself and the challenges therein, and in the meantime offers up incredibly rich (deep) life topics and expert voices. In a sea of shows on wellness or mindfulness etc., this is my favorite. Anyone slightly attracted to it will be inclined to really commit for the full journey after one or two episodes.

Getting Out of the Unconscious Loyalty Trap (Mark Wolynn)
Q: What practical steps can someone take to start changing these patterns without formal therapy?
Start by identifying positive, life-giving experiences that calm the nervous system, practice staying with uncomfortable sensations for 60 seconds, and use mindful, gratitude-based or somatic exercises to down-regulate the vagus nerve and create new neural pathways.
Getting Out of the Unconscious Loyalty Trap (Mark Wolynn)
Q: Can you share a story that illustrates how these patterns show up in a real person's life?
A young woman who deeply cut herself began with a narrative about not belonging to herself; through a family-constellation exercise, she connected her self-harm to unresolved trauma in grandparents, recognizing a lineage of messages about not deserving to live and the rescue of a living energy from ancestors.
Getting Out of the Unconscious Loyalty Trap (Mark Wolynn)
Q: For listeners who aren't familiar, how would you summarize the core idea of inherited trauma and attachment patterns?
Trauma can be transmitted not just through memories but through biology and emotional patterns that pass down in DNA expression and attachment dynamics, influencing relationships and health for generations unless we actively re-pattern with new experiences and conscious work.
What’s Behind Lasting Attraction? (Paul Eastwick, PhD)
Q: Is there evidence that social networks influence who people end up dating?
Yes, networks facilitate introductions and can provide a safer, contextual signal about a potential partner, often leading to relationships that develop through mutual connections.
What’s Behind Lasting Attraction? (Paul Eastwick, PhD)
Q: What role do dating apps play in shifting our expectations about dating timing and success?
Apps tend to compress dating into brief impressions, which can overestimate the importance of initial traits but often miss how people grow into attraction through repeated interactions.
