Exploring Attachment Styles and Compassion with Dr. Deanna Varley
Q: What would your takeaway be to our audience about your meta-analysis?
Attachment influences not only how we engage with others but also our self-compassion.
Exploring Attachment Styles and Compassion with Dr. Deanna Varley
Q: Could you break down the difference between those two attachment styles?
Anxious attachment is characterized by a fear of rejection, making individuals seek closeness but live in fear of abandonment. In contrast, avoidant attachment involves individuals avoiding closeness to protect themselves from rejection.
Compassionate Media: Communicating a World in Crisis with Dr Simon Cottle
Q: Are we really at a point now that it demands that type of language to kind of underscore how serious these issues are?
Yes, we are at an unprecedented moment in human history, demanding urgent recognition of the converging crises we face.
Compassionate Media: Communicating a World in Crisis with Dr Simon Cottle
Q: What do you think is the role of the news media in this current era?
The news media must provide a realistic appraisal of the multiple crises threatening humanity and scrutinize politics and policy agendas addressing these issues.
Cultivating Compassion for men and boys
Q: What do you think is the impact of trauma, early trauma, and how that expresses itself in terms of toxic masculinity?
Trauma creates a sense of threat, activating defensive reactions like fight or flight. Hurting boys often hurt others, and they get punished, driving them deeper into a threat defense system. We need to infuse compassion rather than punishment.
