This episode was amazing! I’ve done PD in trauma informed education but you have owned my eyes to trauma informed financial literacy. Thank you. It makes sense now. You are an amazing human. X x x

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#46 Tammy Davis
Q: What do you tell a young person straight out of media school who wants to break into the industry?
Tammy explains that rejection is a constant, but persisting, learning from each setback, and building practical skills (like drama and lighting) helps you stay adaptable and resilient as you pursue roles over time.
#47 Chris Hipkins
Q: What's your why?
My why is simple: to give every child the opportunities I had, because New Zealand has resources and wealth, but they must reach the people who need them most; inequality is the core problem and I want to change that by shaping a fairer future.
#42 Roimata Smail
Q: What's your why? What keeps you going in this mahi?
My whanau support and the belief that education can translate into safer, fairer communities; by educating as many people as possible, I hope to create a friendlier world for future generations and empower youths facing hard times.
#42 Roimata Smail
Q: What would you say to people who have absolutely no understanding but want to learn more?
I would invite them to library talks or to read the concise Te Tiriti book; you don't need a PhD—it's a 30-page guide that can be read in an hour and a half, and it opens up understanding enough to assess what politicians say and what media report.
#42 Roimata Smail
Q: Do you think it's ever possible that New Zealand can be co-governed?
Totally. The idea has always been to treat tangata whenua as equal partners in decision-making about land and environments; with bravery and shared governance, co-governance can become a real pathway toward balancing rights and responsibilities.
