Tremendous work and excellent guests. Keep in up. Keep questioning authority. Dr Bransfield and Dr Breitschwerdt were terrific. Why don’t psychiatrists in this country understand there is a biologic reason for mental illness? It is secondary to infections, not childhood timeouts. The majority of psychotic patients are not ill because their titer of antipsychotic meds are too low, rather because they have untreated brain infections.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dr. Jyotsna Shah: Inside IGeneX's Game-Changing Lyme Test
Q: How does IGeneX's test differ from standard tests?
IGeneX uses an expanded immunoblot with many more antigens, species-wide coverage, and a simultaneous IgM/IgG readout to improve sensitivity and reveal past versus current infections and co-infections.
Dr. Jyotsna Shah: Inside IGeneX's Game-Changing Lyme Test
Q: Why have traditional Lyme tests missed so many cases?
Because there are multiple Borrelia species, limited antigen targets, and many patients fail to mount a clear antibody response on standard two-tier testing; a broader panel captures more true positives.
Mikki Tal, PhD: Chronic Infections, Fertility, & Immunity: MIT Immunoengineer Makes Groundbreaking Lyme Discoveries
Q: What is Maestro aiming to achieve?
Maestro seeks to collect comprehensive patient data, measure a wide array of biomarkers, and link symptoms to objective metrics to inform diagnostics and future trials.
Mikki Tal, PhD: Chronic Infections, Fertility, & Immunity: MIT Immunoengineer Makes Groundbreaking Lyme Discoveries
Q: How do sex differences influence the immune response to infection?
Sex hormones affect immune cell receptors and function, and the differences between males and females can lead to distinct disease presentations and outcomes.
Mikki Tal, PhD: Chronic Infections, Fertility, & Immunity: MIT Immunoengineer Makes Groundbreaking Lyme Discoveries
Q: Was that your first foray into Lyme?
Yes, it was; the experience with patients and the realization of how devastating Lyme can be influenced the direction of her research.
