  • Outstanding Experience

It has to be said that Fitch is funny. But in all seriousness, I love listening to this podcast. It’s a safe place for a good theology nerd-out. The only “complaint” or “critique” I would offer is that Dave and Mike should increase the frequency of the podcast. Churn’em out, boys!

  • Can’t stand the dynamic

I’ve listened to Theology on a Mission for quite awhile now. I recently listened to it with my wife and she told me how irritating she found it. Hearing that from her solidified some stuff I’ve often thought but not vocalized… the dynamic behind the hosts is so irritating that the show can often be unlistenable: David Fitch evidently has a radio background and refuses to tone it down. His booming voice often dominates versus the guest, along with his own thoughts. Fitch often YELLS EMPHATICALLY ... more

  • Power Episode with Andy Crouch

Excellent conversation! Really grateful for how Fitch and Crouch nuanced their positions on power and coercion. They also provided some helpful implications and a way forward for future discussions. Had this podcast recommenced from a good friend and I will be tuning in going forward!

  • Enjoy the podcast

Been a long time listener and really enjoy the podcast overall. I do wonder what Mike Moore’s purpose in the podcast is because Fitch monopolizes so much of the conversation. It seems like it might make more sense for Fitch to be the solo host. Blessings!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S11:E15 Kingdom Apprenticeship: Dallas Willard's Formational Theology and Missional Vision with Keas Keasler
Q: Tell us a little about you and what drew you to Willard's work?
Keas describes his background in spiritual theology and explains his interest in Willard as a bridge between mystics and missionaries, aiming to integrate spiritual formation with missional Christianity.
S11:E12 Contextual Theological Interpretation: An Integrated Model for Reading the Bible with Dr. Bo H. Lim
Q: What is the future of biblical scholarship when scholars are far removed from the contexts of actual readers?
Lim suggests a discursive framing where scholars engage with diverse cultural contexts while maintaining a link to the canonical text, and emphasizes the need to train readers to connect scripture with lived realities rather than treating scholarly work as purely distant analysis.
S11:E12 Contextual Theological Interpretation: An Integrated Model for Reading the Bible with Dr. Bo H. Lim
Q: Bo, lay out for us what you are responding to in your book and what traditional methods you are challenging.
The book responds to the gap between biblical exegesis and contemporary life, arguing that historical-critical work alone leaves Scripture culturally distant, while purely contextual readings can drift from the text's theological core. Lim proposes an integrated model that respects text, theology, and context together as mutually informing rather than mutually exclusive.
S11:E1 Losing Our Religion: Russell Moore on the Crisis and Hope of Evangelicalism
Q: What does it look like for the church to train people in biblical literacy?
We have to model how scripture transforms. We shouldn't underestimate people's capacity to fall in love with scripture if it's properly presented.
S11:E1 Losing Our Religion: Russell Moore on the Crisis and Hope of Evangelicalism
Q: What do you think is good to preserve in evangelicalism as we go through these mammoth upheavals?
The primary thing is that emphasis that evangelicalism puts upon the personal relationship with Jesus.
