390. The Tax Elections You Might Already Be Stuck With (And How to Save Up to $40,000)
Q: When a client makes a tax selection, do they usually know when they might be stuck with it?
Many clients are unaware of the elections made on their returns, and even well-intentioned selections can be hidden deep in the return; a debrief with the preparer helps reveal the highlights and identify potential issues.
387. How a Pizza Guy Acquired 2,000 Apartment Units & $400M in Assets With Gino Barbaro
Q: Can you walk us through your first deal and how you evaluated it with Jake?
We found a 25-unit deal in Knoxville, negotiated seller financing, and used a mix of self-financing and a bank loan with 10% down. The process underscored the importance of course-correcting from early false starts and building a repeatable framework that later scaled to thousands of units.
What's Next for Commercial Real Estate? According to a Broker Behind $10 Billion in Deals
Q: Are you seeing AI impacting office space, and what potential does it have for the market?
AI is being used as a practical productivity tool rather than a replacement for human decision-making; it can handle mundane tasks and data processing while professionals focus on strategic analysis and negotiations.
388. Trump Accounts: What You Need to Know Now That They're Live with Jacob Orr
Q: Can these accounts be added to with employer contributions, and how does that affect the $5,000 limit?
Yes, employers can contribute up to $2,500 per year, but those contributions count toward the $5,000 per-child limit, and the seed government contribution does not count toward that limit.
388. Trump Accounts: What You Need to Know Now That They're Live with Jacob Orr
Q: What happens at the child's 18th birthday regarding the account and investments?
At 18, the account generally becomes a traditional IRA, and withdrawals follow traditional IRA rules; some withdrawals for higher education or first-time home purchases up to $10,000 can avoid the 10% early withdrawal penalty, but ordinary taxes apply to growth.
