  • Often poor journalistic standards

Just listen to the Gary lineker take down. They get an old golf commentator (who., uniquely, clearly hated Gary) trash talk him largely without any push back. The programme often follows the (v rightish) UK press memes unquestioningly.

Worth a listen if they’re not covering anything vaguely political.

  • Has gone completely downhill

This used required listening both when presented by the peerless Steve Hewlett and, following his sad death, by Amol Rajan, it is almost unlistenable with the latest presenters.

Firstly, this show just doesn’t need two presenters — I think this is just a decision blindly to follow the standard podcast blueprint of having two presenters, but this show doesn’t need two and is the lesser for it. Secondly, the new presenters are dreadful. Katie Razzle is particularly awful. She talks over guests,... more

  • Sound levels

I really struggled to hear Alex Mahon, she is a quiet talker and no one seemed to adjust her mic level in comparison with the host, content is great when the contribs mic levels are right

Q: How does reality-TV editing work, and how do producers ensure fairness while delivering compelling narratives?
Editors and executive producers describe balancing fairness with storytelling, noting that footage can be reordered and edited to shape events, but emphasize that misrepresentation is avoided and safeguards exist, though complaints about edits persist.

Q: Why is there a push for an independent body to investigate crimes against journalists?
Christina Lamb explains that journalists have long worn identifiable press vests, yet are increasingly targeted, sometimes by states; an independent body would centralize investigations, deter impunity, and better protect reporters in war zones.

Q: What are the practicalities and accessibility limits for UK media covering the royal visit in the US?
The UK media have some access to key moments like the Congress speech and White House events, but there are clear boundaries—no regular press conferences—and the visit is heavily scripted to minimize off-the-cuff remarks, with journalists acting as observers rather than participants.

Q: Danny, where did the idea for Uncanny come from and how has it evolved?
Danny Robins describes turning a Radio 4 ghost story concept into a broader media franchise, balancing belief and skepticism, expanding to TV, live shows, and a fan community while keeping the format fresh with new stories and formats.

Q: Katie, what's happened to QVC and why is it still resilient in the UK market?
Katie Linsell explains that teleshopping channels face competition from mobile and social platforms, but UK QVC remains robust due to a stable audience, ongoing product variety, and a different debt situation versus the US.
