  • Succumbs to Israeli propaganda

Excellent episode with Peter Verne. Very disappointed in Lionel who without any evidence whatsoever immediately defames Oborne as a conspiracy nutjob. This is exactly the Israeli line - he just stopped short of calling Oborne anti semitic. Shame on you Lionel. Read the book look at the evidence- if the real life reporting of the tens of thousand of deaths which are not properly reported in the mainstream media including the BBC is not obvious enough evidence for you.

  • Succumbs to Israeli propaganda

Israelis are now trying to spread a narrative that they did not know what was being done in Gaza. This is absolutely untrue and I am so disappointed that Media Confidential joins this effort. Israelis have the same access to social media as everyone else and furthermore have absolutely and totally supported the Govt. They are going to pivot after they have slaughtered the Palestinians and stolen their land, to “oh we did not know”. Utter lies. Do not join them in their cover up.

  • Colonialist Fact Check

On the John Sawers episode - fyi there are plenty of Asian migrants in Russia and plenty of Africans & Asians wanting to or migrated to China. Have you been to either place? Obviously those countries have tighter immigration policies but don’t kid yourself that everyone wants to move to US or Europe.

I’m listening to Lionel Barber praise the easier access to audio equipment and wonder why the quality of his recording is more uneven than Alan’s.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is the Westminster lobby a victim of groupthink?
Q: What are the main criticisms of the lobby, particularly around sourcing and anonymity?
Critics argue that anonymity can enable smear campaigns or unverified claims, while proponents say on-the-record constraints can hinder truth-telling; the balance is to push for attribution when possible but still tell readers what insiders are really saying behind the scenes.
Is the Westminster lobby a victim of groupthink?
Q: How exactly does the lobby operate on a daily basis?
The lobby starts with a morning briefing at Downing Street, followed by breakfast meetings and extensive on-ground reporting; journalists gather information, chase background sources, and synthesize it for readers, while maintaining an awareness of the rules around off-the-record comments.
When did climate coverage become part of the culture wars?
Q: Bob, when did climate coverage become part of the culture wars?
The politicization of climate coverage in the UK began around the mid-2000s, particularly after events like the hacking of emails from the University of East Anglia, which led to climate skepticism by influential figures.
Are we losing our civil liberties?
Q: How do you view the balance between youth activism and older political norms regarding protest?
While younger people advocate for their right to protest, there is a notable disconnection from established political leaders, leading to differing views on protest rights.
‘Despair is a luxury’: A year of hope with Zizek, Mehdi Hasan, Robert Macfarlane and others
Q: What gives you reason for hope and optimism in the world?
Hope comes from the human capacity for resilience and collective action, despite the challenges faced.
