  • Disappointing argument about Artemis

I'll take the optimism right now over cynicism and pessimism. I think its more healthy. Generally a worthwhile listen but sometimes seems badly informed. The Artemis episode was like listening to a bad prolonged argument with my other half and a lots of statements about the programme were plain wrong. I'm unsubscribing for a period

  • Decent podcast…terrible audio

Lively discussion but something has changed of late and the sound quality is terrible. Matt d’Ancona sounds muffled and barely audible. Can you fix this asap?

  • Worth a listen

If only to know how highly informed and educated people end up in the cul-de-sac of confusion searching for meaning and clarity. Unintentionally amusing.

  • A PSA test is not definitive.

Matt Ancona paints a disappointing picture of himself. Dismissing compassion is desperately sad and he seems to lack any depth of feeling towards a very young person who was deeply misguided. Owning the problem is our responsibility.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Two Matts Q&A: Where is Burnham weak? And is America humiliated?
Q: If Andy Burnham becomes Prime Minister, what will be his greatest vulnerability?
The consensus is that his biggest risk is being caricatured as 'normal' or out of touch; he must balance authenticity with a presidential aura and avoid overselling northern identity.
The Two Matts Q&A: Will Starmer survive, and has the Pope got it right on AI?
Q: You've previously been very critical of Kemi Badenoch, have we?
Yes, she has grown into the role and performed well at PMQs, but the broader challenge is defining a coherent liberal-conservative policy that can beat the far-right forces reshaping UK politics.
The Two Matts Q&A: Burnham’s to-do list and the shameless Brexit villains
Q: Has your opinion of Giorgia Meloni altered since she called out Trump?
They praise Meloni for taking a spine-backed stance against Trump, noting her decisive, unapologetic interventions and contrasting her approach with other European political figures, while acknowledging her controversial origins and ongoing influence.
The Two Matts Q&A: Burnham’s to-do list and the shameless Brexit villains
Q: First question comes from Bill in Bolton. What should be Mr. Burnham's top three to-do list?
The hosts outline a three-part agenda: (1) immediate financial measures including capital gains tax alignment to raise funds and a 300-pound energy rebate for households; (2) a dramatic, quick housing push with a public, ground-breaking plan showing 250,000 homes and re-centering planning authority to accelerate building; (3) a long-term plan to establish a Department of Digital Growth, Employment and Well-being focusing on AI, regulation, and education, with cabinet-level buy-in.
The Two Matts Q&A: A media scandal and a dementia hero
Q: From Jack Vernon: Why has Westminster avoided dementia as a priority for almost two decades while devolved nations have acted, and what does dementia as the UK's biggest killer say about policy alignment?
The hosts acknowledge a historic neglect of dementia care, call for UK-wide strategy and better alignment between NHS and social care, and highlight the urgency of funding, early diagnosis, and supportive services for families.
