  • I want to listen to The In Between, not Somethings Off

I stopped listening to Crime Writers On years ago because I thought Rebecca was annoying and now here she is.

I’m so glad she helped Mel make podcasts and mentors her and that they are friends. I’m even happy they have a show together. I just don’t want to listen to it. I’m subscribed to The In Between but am disappointed every time it isn’t the show I want.

Mel you are good enough on your own. Or at least change the name of the show so we know what it is.

  • Finding it hard to listen!

I really enjoy listening to your topic discussions, especially with Rebecca. I love when you follow along on trials, but your episodes are WAY too long! The live episodes are understandable but I find myself skipping through episodes or some all together because some of the chat just goes on for no reason or seeing 2-3 hr episodes makes me avoid them all together. Please consider more structure.

  • Pipe down know it all!

I found this podcast during Karen Read and enjoyed the “local” coverage. Both Mel and Rebecca are individually intelligent and articulate. However, Rebecca grates on my nerves as she is such a know it all, who is constantly trying to prove her cohost wrong and often interrupts or talks over her, often over nothing of true import, she just needs to be right. It gives a vibe of elitism and condescension, rather than cohesion. I can also live without Rebecca rattling off her resume every episode to... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

142: Broken Baker & The Wildest Courtroom We’ve Ever Seen - Turtleboy v Meredith O’Neil
Q: What drew you to cover the Meredith O'Neil and Aidan Carney case, and how do you balance entertainment with accuracy?
I'm drawn to these cases because they reveal how media, public perception, and courtroom strategy interact. I aim to present the facts clearly, call out inconsistencies, and use commentary to shed light on legal processes rather than sensationalizing individuals.
142: Broken Baker & The Wildest Courtroom We’ve Ever Seen - Turtleboy v Meredith O’Neil
Q: Can you introduce yourself to our audience and explain your background with this kind of content?
I'm Broken Baker, a Danish-English creator who covers true crime and trials online, and I've built a platform by explaining complex courtroom dynamics to a broad audience while trying to keep things entertaining and informative.
140: 1st Amendment Rights, Satire, Activism + all the drama w/special guest, Turtleboy aka Aidan Kearney
Q: What would you tell Meredith or similar figures about moving forward after public disputes?
Take responsibility where appropriate, acknowledge harm caused, and pursue a healthier, more transparent path forward rather than digging in or escalating—though the dynamic is difficult.
140: 1st Amendment Rights, Satire, Activism + all the drama w/special guest, Turtleboy aka Aidan Kearney
Q: Why do you think people trust Turtleboy so much, given the controversy around your work?
Trust seems to come from a combination of direct engagement, transparency about sources, and a willingness to show the complexities behind the stories rather than presenting a one-sided narrative.
86: Something's Off with Maggie Freleng
Q: What are you working on right now?
I'm focusing on season two of Graves County, as the case continues to develop and requires deeper investigation.
