"We've all heard women scream in horror films ... still, we know that no-one is really screaming. Why? Simply because an actress can't produce some sounds that convince us that something vile and heinous is happening. If you ever heard that tape, the... more
It was the summer of 1979. The last vestiges of the 1970s were set to expire and welcome in the rip and roar era of the 80s. This chapter takes place in Torrance, California, a coastal town where the air smells faintly of salt and sun-baked asphalt. ... more

I really enjoy the hosts voice, pacing, and overall presentation, and I really enjoy the cases they pick to deep dive into. However, a huge portion of each episode is just long clips from another podcast. Especially the latest season. The hosts mentions fair use, but it feels less like original commentary and more like reposting someone else’s work. I’d much rather hear original analysis.
I’m giving Tapes from the Dark Side Season 8 a try. This is the first season I’ve listened to, and perhaps the host's voice is something I’d eventually get used to, but if I hadn't already depleted every other true crime podcast I could find, the voice alone would have been enough to make me stop.

Some podcasts simply don’t work because the podcaster just doesn’t have a good voice to listen to. This podcaster has a great listening voice. It works!
I just discovered this podcast, and I can’t stop listening. I started with season 9 because I’m familiar with the chandler halderson case. This is a serious deep dive into the case—not a single thing is left out. TZ is such a good story teller. He covers the whole story without adding unnecessary fluff.
Good stories but I could do without the liberal views.
