  • Just ok…. Theresa talks too much

A lot of great information, however,

Would be even better if the host rambled less and allowed her guests to actually speak. There are now better medical SLP podcasts out there.

398 – From Glasgow Coma Score of 2 to Certified Brain Injury Specialist: An SLPs Journey from Patient to Clinician

She discusses cultivating collaboration, using real-life examples, and aligning therapy with patient goals to maintain motivation.
398 – From Glasgow Coma Score of 2 to Certified Brain Injury Specialist: An SLPs Journey from Patient to Clinician
Q: Where should we start?
Laura walks through her background and how the brain injury redirected her career toward brain injury rehabilitation, emphasizing how personal experience informs her clinical practice.
394 – Pressure, Pumps, and the UES:The Case for Pharyngeal Manometry in Clinical Practice
Q: What did the logistics look like for performing pharyngeal manometry in your clinic?
We described a catheter-based system passed transnasally with sensors, trained internal competencies for passing catheters, and the use of GI staff or trained techs to handle placement; in some settings numbing may be restricted by licensure, so non-numbed procedures are sometimes used, and the workflow aims to logistically minimize patient time to maximize efficiency and billing practicality.
393 – Clinks, Clunks, and Clinical Confidence: Rethinking Cervical Auscultation – Julie Cichero BA, BSpThy(Hons), PhD
Q: Can you talk a little bit more about what you found when you compare cervical auscultation to instrumental assessments?
There is good reliability and validity with cervical auscultation, with sensitivities around 91% and specificities around 79%, and it has a strong negative predictive value, meaning a healthy sounding sequence usually indicates a healthy swallow. It complements instrumental exams rather than replaces them.
380 – From Burnout to Breakthrough: How Dr. Sandiford Built a Time-Saving Tool for SLPs
Q: What does the technology behind SLPeaceBot look like?
It's a web-based application utilizing AI and LLMs to generate session notes based on clinician input.
