  • Not for young ears

Good content except for the fact that one of the speakers feels the need to drop f-bombs throughout, and completely unwarranted.

  • So Funny!

So - the way everyone teases each other out of respect and admiration is really uplifting as they take you on very relatable journey through applying their lessons to you work. At first you think it’s about asteroid mining - and yah - it is… but it’s transformative at a higher level. They get lawyers to open up while helping their team consider nuances of trade-offs. It’s how work should be. As a mid career designer studying aerospace engineering - it gives me a North Star. Great job - Micah

  • Details, sarcasm and great thoughts

My favorite space podcast - and I listen to a lot. This one has all you wish: You get both details and the wider picture delivered by a bubbly and at times sarcastic cast. The ideas can be applied outside the world of asteroid mining as well. In fact, some of them will get you thinking: When they are relevant in the microcosm of this startup - shouldn’t they be applied outside as well?! A great podcast - definitely recommended! Try it!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Put Us In, Coach
Q: Why is there skepticism about mining the Moon versus asteroids, and what is the economic rationale?
The Moon's gravity well and aluminum/silicate abundance make some resources less attractive; metal asteroids contain high-grade platinum-group metals, making them more economically viable for in-space mining today.
Put Us In, Coach
Q: What actual ground-station architecture changes are being implemented to avoid Odin-style comms issues?
They plan almost three times as many ground stations, plus automated configuration and scheduling software to switch stations without manual reconfiguration, and a more robust overall comms system.
Put Us In, Coach
Q: With the announcement of more clips missions to the moon, is that going to give AstroForge the opportunity for a higher flight cadence?
Yes, more moon missions help but rideshare slots and procurement timelines mean progress is incremental; they expect increased cadence but still require negotiations and multi-year planning.
We're Flying a Gas Tank
Q: What does a kilogram of xenon cost these days?
Prices are volatile and negotiated through supply chains rather than transparent markets; historically there have been peaks around 100 dollars per liter during crises, but typical modern pricing is much lower and depends on contracts and purity requirements.
We're Flying a Gas Tank
Q: Robyn, how much xenon do we actually need on Deep Space 2?
The mission aims to carry around 65-70 kilograms of xenon, a substantial amount that underscores the gas's importance for propulsion while highlighting how costly and heavy it is to transport on deep-space missions.
