  • Not for young ears

Good content except for the fact that one of the speakers feels the need to drop f-bombs throughout, and completely unwarranted.

  • So Funny!

So - the way everyone teases each other out of respect and admiration is really uplifting as they take you on very relatable journey through applying their lessons to you work. At first you think it’s about asteroid mining - and yah - it is… but it’s transformative at a higher level. They get lawyers to open up while helping their team consider nuances of trade-offs. It’s how work should be. As a mid career designer studying aerospace engineering - it gives me a North Star. Great job - Micah

  • Details, sarcasm and great thoughts

My favorite space podcast - and I listen to a lot. This one has all you wish: You get both details and the wider picture delivered by a bubbly and at times sarcastic cast. The ideas can be applied outside the world of asteroid mining as well. In fact, some of them will get you thinking: When they are relevant in the microcosm of this startup - shouldn’t they be applied outside as well?! A great podcast - definitely recommended! Try it!

  • Not Your Father’s Aerospace

I saw this link drop on X and was curious what it was about. I’m new to this crazy new world of commercial Spaceflight though I did grow up and follow the Space Shuttle era. I honestly first thought this podcast was a joke, but apparently this is real! I feel like these are the guys from the movie Armageddon - the lunchpail blue collars are going to space. Godspeed.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Reconnoiter And Respond (ft. Brent Barbee, Lead Planetary Defense Applications Scientist + Adrienne Rudolph, Graduate Researcher at UMD)
Q: What do you see as the biggest challenges along the way to successfully solving the first steps of asteroid mining?
Securing a feasible economic model and iterating quickly on mission designs are key challenges.
Reconnoiter And Respond (ft. Brent Barbee, Lead Planetary Defense Applications Scientist + Adrienne Rudolph, Graduate Researcher at UMD)
Q: Is it something that you guys would ever look at capturing a Temporarily Captured Object and putting it in orbit around the moon?
Yes, capturing a TCO is a possibility, especially if they come within practical distances.
The Attitude Problem
Q: How do we decide the landing point from a couple hundred kilometers away?
The landing distance is based on the need for confidence in asteroid detection while also avoiding collisions.
The Attitude Problem
Q: What are the hardest things that you've had to solve in building this algorithm?
Identifying true data about asteroid positioning since simulations may not reflect real conditions in space.
Stressed And Unpressed
Q: What are your biggest concerns for the vehicle as of right now?
Solar panel deployment is a major concern since it directly affects spacecraft operation. Without proper deployment, we could end up in a low-power state.
