  • Informative and entertaining

Rod and Tariq put on an entertaining show full of informative stories and interesting guests. I’ve enjoyed tuning in for years. To all the reviews complaining about the so-called political nature of this show please grow up. I listen to podcasts for information and often opinions other than mine talk to a mirror if you only want to hear what you already know. Keep up the great work guys.

  • Episode 178, "Tell it to the Mountain," was not about space

This Week in Space is usually very good, but this episode went down a political rabbit hole. Some episodes touch on national politics, but they stick to relevant topics (e.g., NASA budget, administration priorities). This episode fell off the wagon with a political wanna-be spouting about the 1st Amendment, Texas politics and other topics unrelated to space. I couldn't finish the episode. I'm not going to unsubscribe - yet. Hopefully this is a single aberration. If it happens again, count me out... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

TWiS 206: I Want to Believe - When We Meet the Aliens
Q: How should public communication handle uncertainty when detecting life?
Be explicit about uncertainty, provide a scale or criteria for confidence, and explain what is known, what isn't, and how the public can protect themselves or understand ongoing research.
TWiS 206: I Want to Believe - When We Meet the Aliens
Q: Why hasn't there been more thought about communicating the search for life in space earlier?
There is a disconnect between researchers and practitioners, plus a focus on immediate current events in science communication, which has limited proactive planning for future discoveries.
TWiS 206: I Want to Believe - When We Meet the Aliens
Q: What is Brianne's path to space and how does her background inform her work?
She describes a transition from a conservative religious upbringing to studying philosophy and communication, which led her to focus on how beliefs and knowledge influence public engagement with science and space exploration.
TWiS 203: China Rising - With Dr. Namrata Goswami
Q: What are the core goals for China's Moon program beyond simply reaching the surface?
To demonstrate advanced space capabilities, enable permanent LEO presence via Tiangong, establish cislunar infrastructure, extract resources like water ice for fuel, and study the far side and south pole for long-term presence and potential helium-3 applications.
TWiS 203: China Rising - With Dr. Namrata Goswami
Q: Do you see a real race between the US and China, or is this more of a broader strategic competition?
The guest describes it as a scramble and a potential race, depending on developments and whether they achieve sustained lunar infrastructure and resource utilization, with China setting earlier timetables and the US shaping a governance-driven approach.
