Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Do Christians Need to Believe that Jesus was Raised Bodily from the Dead? Licona vs. Patterson
Q: Dr. Patterson, how do you justify not believing that dead people come back to life?
I defend my position biologically by asserting that dead bodies decay, which leads me to believe they do not come back to life under natural causes.
The Historical Reliability of the Gospels: Licona vs. Ehrman - Part 2
Q: So why do you think, if this was all pretty much fabricated, how did the early church start with such passion, and there was so much commitment by the early church followers that claimed they actually experienced Christ and were willing to go to their death for that?
I think that what happened is some of the followers of Jesus believed they saw him alive after his crucifixion. They had visions of him.
Since Most People Are Wrong When They Make Supernatural Claims, Why Didn't God Do Better?
Q: If God could provide better evidence of Jesus' resurrection, why didn't He?
Dr. Licona suggests that God has provided sufficient evidence and that it is humans who fail to acknowledge it, much like how people disregard well-documented historical facts.
Since Most People Are Wrong When They Make Supernatural Claims, Why Didn't God Do Better?
Q: What do you do with the cases where people are certifiably dead and they report accurate information they could not have known otherwise?
Dr. McCormick counters that he finds these supernatural claims unconvincing due to the potential for natural explanations and that anecdotal evidence does not constitute proof.
Mike Takes on World Ranked Debator on the Topic of Jesus' Resurrection from the Dead
Q: What are the possibilities that this story is actually true and just everybody made it to fit their culture?
There's a possibility that these attributes and stories derived from early man's accounts and storytelling traditions, but this does not necessarily affirm the historicity of those narratives in the same way as Jesus'.

A intellectually focused faith and history show centered on the resurrection of Jesus, gospel reliability, and early Christian witness. Episodes pit evangelical historians against critics and adherents of other beliefs, often using philosophical rigor, historical method, and textual analysis to weigh bodily resurrection claims, gospel contradictions, and doctrinal implications. The format tends to feature long-form debates and nuanced conversations among scholars, with a strong emphasis on scholarship, evidence, and the intersection of faith and reason. Noteworthy is the consistent presence of Dr. Mike Licona, whose approach blends evangelical apologetics with critical dialogue, and the series' willingness to entertain competing perspective... more
