  • Best Christian Podcast

Podcast is very well produced. I have subscribed and unsubscribed to many Christian podcasts, as when I listened I couldn’t keep engaged for very long. This podcast is different. It’s almost always very interesting and makes me think and take action in my life. I want to get through all the past episodes.

  • Pod on Friendship

Just listened to the episode on friendship this afternoon. I’m not a stranger to the seriousness of the subject matter, the tone and challenging content than John and team present each episode, but this one blindsided me! I have been profoundly moved by your message here and I am so grateful for that. Genuinely, thank you 🙏🏻

  • Intellectual + Spiritual

I love how JD and the crew can make any topic interesting! I never would’ve thought I’d enjoy an episode titled “History of Chemistry” or “Jane Austen”. American politics make it seem like reason and faith can’t be reconciled, and these guys regularly show how false of a dichotomy that is. If we really believe that God created “all that is seen and unseen”, then studying his beautiful world isn’t simply a nice add-on, but a mandate and an act of worship. This podcast shows us how to be a 21st ce... more

  • Right up my spiritual and intellectual alley!

I’ve been diving into John Dickson‘s podcasts and videos and I am finding them to be “right up my intellectual an spiritual alley.” Too many Christian writers start from an assumed foundation of faith…not John, he builds faith from the ground up… which is just what people like me need when we have been trying hard almost all our lives to build a home base of faith, not founded on a faith rooted in one’s earlier years (which I didn’t have). Keep on pursuing absolute truth as the foundation of wha... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

176. Question Answer XVI
Q: How should wealth and material concerns be taught in a modern Christian context given historical critiques of medieval and Prosperity Gospel influences?
The host reflects on past evangelistic excesses and medieval Christian responses, urging a stance that condemns wealth-driven distortion while recognizing Jesus and historical Church Fathers' emphasis on charity; he suggests a careful, historically informed teaching that avoids both asceticism and uncritical wealth worship.
176. Question Answer XVI
Q: Do Neanderthals count as beings made in the image of God, and what does that imply for salvation and the image of God?
The guest argues that image-bearing is not about capacity but a relational designation by God; he doubts Neanderthals were created in God's image in the strict sense, while acknowledging they may have had a reverent relationship with the Creator, and he extends this to a broader Christian anthropology.
176. Question Answer XVI
Q: Why isn't God more obvious, and could there be a noble reason for divine hiddenness?
The host presents three contemplations: reasons God might not be obvious (to preserve genuine faith and love), the idea that God may want a certain heart attitude rather than intellectual certainty, and that divine timing for answers may vary; the guest emphasizes humility in understanding heart motivations and the open-ended nature of when answers arrive.
172. Reading Classics
Q: What do we mean when we say the Classics?
The Classics refer to ancient Greek and Latin writings that have shaped Western thought; while some criticize the term for elitism, the conversation emphasizes engaging these works thoughtfully and reading them through a Christian lens when appropriate.
171. Without God
Q: And why did you write this book as a kind of parable instead of a philosophical argument?
Chris Palmer explains that placing philosophy in the form of a parable or story grounds abstract ideas in everyday life, making it accessible to people who may not be drawn to dense philosophical treatises. The town of Novemberton serves as a narrative device to show how nihilism, meaning, and faith play out in ordinary settings, bridging intellectual discussion with lived experience.
