  • Excellent Podcast!

I recently started using ParrotPal and listen to this podcast in conjunction with that. Scott is great at breaking down concepts so that they can be weaved into daily life/routines. I enjoy learning about new medical and science studies as they pertain to health and weight loss.

A great podcast on its own, but particularly helpful if/when using ParrotPal.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dr Amalia Talk #2 - Everything Hormones
Q: What should people track before and during an appointment to help a clinician balance their hormones?
Track menstrual cycles (if ongoing), timing and type of symptoms (hot flashes, mood changes, sleep, libido), any contraception use, and how they respond to current therapies. Keeping a diary of symptoms across the cycle helps guide timing for tests and adjustments, and documenting medications or supplements aids interpretation.
Dr Amalia Talk #2 - Everything Hormones
Q: How long does it typically take to find an HRT regimen that works for a patient?
Most patients should feel better within a few months, but it can vary widely. Some individuals—especially those with complex hormonal patterns—may take longer, and in rare cases results aren't optimal for years, requiring careful rebalancing and sometimes specialist input.
Obesity Doctor Talk + Q&A
Q: For someone who has yo‑yo'd their weight, what is your advice for maintaining weight loss long term?
Sustainability and a long‑term plan are crucial: combine lifestyle changes with potential pharmacotherapy and, when appropriate, consider surgical options while ensuring ongoing support and monitoring.
Obesity Doctor Talk + Q&A
Q: Do you think the NHS will expand access to weight loss medications as they become cheaper or more cost‑effective?
There is potential for broader access, but current costs and gatekeeping make rapid expansion unlikely; some countries are moving toward cheaper oral options, which may influence policy over time.
How important is muscle to our life? ft Richie Kirwan PhD
Q: Can you improve fast twitch muscle?
There isn't a point of no return; with training, older adults can gain strength and function, though gains in muscle size may be slower. Regular resistance training can yield meaningful improvements even in later life.
